Job summary

TipTopJob is seeking an experienced Manufacturing Buyer for a UK-based engineering and fabrication environment. You will source steel, metal components and engineering materials, manage supplier relationships and ensure on-time delivery aligned to tight production schedules.

The role requires a proven purchasing background in manufacturing, strong negotiation skills, use of ERP/MRP systems, and the ability to prioritise competing demands.

Responsibilities

  • Source and purchase steel, metal components and engineering materials.
  • Raise and manage purchase orders for raw materials and subcontract services.
  • Negotiate pricing, lead times and commercial terms with suppliers.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with steel stockholders, engineering suppliers and subcontract manufacturers.
  • Monitor supplier performance across cost, quality and delivery.
  • Ensure materials are available to support production schedules and customer deadlines.
  • Work closely with Production, Operations and Stores to understand requirements and plan purchasing activity.
  • Identify cost saving opportunities and support continuous improvement across the purchasing function.
  • Resolve supplier and supply chain issues quickly to minimise disruption to production.
  • Maintain accurate purchasing records and supplier information using the companys ERP or MRP system.
  • Support effective stock control and ensure purchasing decisions are aligned with production requirements and business objectives.

Are you an experienced Manufacturing Buyer with a strong background in purchasing steel, metal components and engineering materials? Are you commercially driven, confident negotiating with suppliers and looking for an opportunity to take ownership of purchasing within a growing manufacturing business?

This is not a role for someone looking to take their first step into purchasing. We are specifically looking for an experienced Manufacturing Buyer with a strong background in procuring steel, metal components, fabricated parts and engineering materials within a manufacturing or engineering environment.

You will be confident negotiating with suppliers, managing lead times and ensuring the right materials are available at the right time to meet demanding production schedules. If you understand the pressures of a manufacturing environment and know how important purchasing is to keeping production moving, this could be a great opportunity.

If you have experience as a Manufacturing Buyer, Senior Buyer, Engineering Buyer, Procurement Specialist or Purchasing Officer within engineering, fabrication or industrial manufacturing, wed like to hear from you.

The Role

As Buyer, you will take responsibility for sourcing and purchasing steel, metal components, fabricated parts, machined components, subcontract services and engineering consumables to support production.

Working closely with Production, Operations and Stores, you will ensure materials are delivered on time, meet the required quality standards and are purchased at the most competitive cost.

You will also play an important role in developing supplier relationships, negotiating pricing and lead times, resolving supply issues and identifying opportunities to improve purchasing performance.

Essential Requirements
  • : Significant purchasing experience within a manufacturing or engineering environment.
  • : Proven experience purchasing steel, metal components, fabricated parts, machined components, engineering materials or industrial products.
  • : Strong understanding of engineering materials and manufacturing supply chains.
  • : Excellent negotiation and supplier relationship management skills.
  • : Experience working with engineering drawings, Bills of Materials or technical specifications would be advantageous.
  • : Good understanding of production planning, material requirements and inventory management.
  • : Experience using ERP or MRP systems.
  • : Commercially minded with strong numerical and analytical skills.
  • : Excellent organisational and communication skills.
  • : Able to manage multiple purchasing requirements and competing priorities within a fast paced manufacturing environment.
