Job summary

Warwick Recruit Ltd is assisting an established manufacturer to recruit a Purchasing Executive / Buyer to join the procurement team. You will manage supplier relationships, negotiate costs and terms, and ensure materials and components are available to meet production needs.

Working with Production, Planning and Technical teams, you will strive to reduce costs, improve quality, and secure continuity of supply.

Job description

We are working on behalf of an established and growing business to recruit a Purchasing Executive / Buyer to join their procurement team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially minded purchasing professional who enjoys working closely with suppliers, negotiating costs and terms, and ensuring the business has the right materials and components available at the right time.

Working closely with internal teams including Production, Planning and Technical, you will play a key role in managing supplier relationships, maintaining continuity of supply and identifying opportunities to improve costs, quality and operational efficiency.

The Role

As Purchasing Executive / Buyer, you will be responsible for purchasing goods, materials and components in line with agreed cost, quality and delivery requirements.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Purchasing goods, materials and components to meet cost, quality and delivery targets.
• Preparing and raising purchase orders following supplier negotiations and in line with business requirements.
• Building and maintaining strong, professional relationships with key suppliers.
• Monitoring supplier performance, including delivery schedules and monthly performance reporting.
• Researching, evaluating and developing new and alternative sources of supply.
• Obtaining and assessing supplier quotations and tenders.
• Negotiating pricing, contracts, payment terms and other commercial agreements to achieve cost savings.
• Working closely with suppliers to resolve issues relating to price, quality, delivery and invoices.
• Ensuring continuity of supply and proactively identifying potential supply risks.
• Working closely with Production and Planning to ensure materials are available in the correct quantities and at the required time.
• Identifying opportunities to reduce purchasing costs and improve value.
• Supporting continuous improvement initiatives across purchasing and supply chain processes.
• Developing ideas and strategies to improve operational efficiency and business performance.
• Working closely with the Technical team to source components and materials for new product development (NPD) projects.
• Supporting the implementation of procurement best practice and identifying opportunities for commercial improvement.

About You

We are looking for a confident and commercially aware purchasing professional with experience in a Buyer, Purchasing Executive, Procurement or similar role.

You will ideally have:

• Previous experience within purchasing, procurement or buying.
• Experience negotiating prices, contracts and commercial terms.
• Excellent analytical and numerical ability.
• Strong problem-solving skills with a practical and proactive approach.
• Good commercial and financial awareness.
• Experience assessing supplier quotations, tenders and alternative sources of supply.
• Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
• The confidence to communicate effectively with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
• A results-focused approach with a genuine interest in improving processes and reducing costs.

Experience of purchasing components, materials or products within a manufacturing, engineering or technical environment would be particularly advantageous.
