We’re looking for a Purchase Ledger Manager to support our Purchase Ledger team on a permanent basis. In this busy and pivotal role, you will be instrumental in overseeing all aspects of purchase ledger across two legal entities, supporting a £40m turnover across 7 destination centres in Yorkshire.

The Role

Purchase Ledger Manager (Permanent)

The Role

This is a busy and dynamic role that involves managing a team of five people while ensuring all aspects of the Purchase Ledger function are maintained to a high standard. You will oversee weekly supplier payment runs, and support cashflow management, all while driving efficiency and accuracy in the team’s operations.

Your leadership and organisational skills will be crucial as you manage the team’s output and resolve any supplier queries that arise. You will also ensure that key financial processes, including aged creditors, negative balances, and monthly checks, are completed accurately and on time.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage, motivate, and manage a team of 5 people, including running weekly team meetings
  • Monitor and review team outputs such as posting overhead invoices, matching invoices to our EPOS system, conducting statement reconciliations, and credit chasing
  • Complete and review weekly supplier payment runs, ensuring they align with the company’s cashflow needs
  • Support the Head of Finance in preparing cashflow forecasts
  • Implement daily, weekly, and monthly checks on the Purchase Ledger, including monitoring aged creditors and negative balances
  • Resolve supplier queries that have been escalated
  • Communicate with the buying team on aged queries and credit claims
  • Conduct regular team catch-ups, probation reviews, and manage employee holidays and absences
  • Provide support for ad hoc financial and administrative duties, including sustainability data reporting

Skills, Knowledge, and Expertise:

  • Previous experience in a similar role is essential
  • Confident working with financial systems (Sage is a bonus but not essential)
  • Retail experience is valued but not essential
  • Previous experience managing or supervising a team
  • Highly organised with excellent attention to detail
  • A passion for problem-solving and process improvement
  • 3 - 10 years' of purchasing experience
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
