Job description

Purchase Ledger Assistant
Sudbury / Hybrid (relocating to Colchester)
£24,000 to £25,000 pa
37.5 hours per week

We have an exciting opportunity to join our dedicated team as a Purchase Ledger Assistant.

Initially working in our Sudbury Office, the role will be moving permanently to our Colchester office later this year.

About the role:

  1. Preparing and assisting in the preparation of payment runs of invoices for payments in a timely and accurate manner by matching invoices to Purchase Orders and ensuring the correct approval process has been followed before inputting into the Finance system.
  2. Being an active member of the Purchase Ledger Team, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the purchase ledger function by processing invoices, credit notes, direct debits, and expenses on weekly payment runs.
  3. Responding to internal and external queries regarding payments of invoices.
  4. Reviewing supplier statements and reconciling accounts accordingly.
  5. Ensuring high standards of work within the department.
  6. Working with the Treasury team to review direct debit payments, seek invoices, and reconcile supplier statements.
  7. Collaborating with Sue Ryder Direct on drop-shipping reporting and payments where suppliers fulfill orders directly to shops or customers.
  8. Carrying out the duties of a purchase ledger department within the team, setting priorities where needed, and helping to ensure targets are met, reporting problems to the Procurement Manager or Purchase Ledger Team Leader.
  9. Assisting with month-end and year-end processes to generate accurate expenditure and accruals by ensuring all actions required by the purchase ledger team are completed in a timely manner.

About you:

  • Experience working within a purchase ledger environment or within an accounting function.
  • Experience in a busy finance environment/team.
  • Numerically astute.
  • Good literacy skills.
  • Intermediate Excel skills.
  • Proven ability to work to finance deadlines.
  • Experience with Access Accounting systems is beneficial.
