Job summary

George Watson’s College in Edinburgh seeks a dedicated Pupil Support Assistant to provide holistic support to Junior School pupils with diverse needs. You will work collaboratively with teachers to enable learning, promote independence and wellbeing across the school day.

You will support learning and personal care, contribute to inclusive practices, and help pupils engage in activities beyond the classroom during term-time. The role is 33.75 hours/week, with a fixed annual salary scale.

Qualifications

• A calm, empathetic, patient and approachable manner, with ability to build trusting relationships with children.
• Commitment to children's rights, inclusion, safeguarding, confidentiality and wellbeing.
• Experience of supporting children or young people with additional needs.
• Initiative, resilience, flexibility and adaptability to work with different pupils.
• Appropriate literacy and communication skills to support pupils effectively, including scribing.

Responsibilities

• Support high-quality learning and teaching by recognising individual needs and strengths.
• Work closely with teaching staff to help pupils access the curriculum and become more independent.
• Prepare and adapt learning resources, technology and equipment.
• Explain or reinforce instructions and key learning points.
• Support wellbeing and behaviour using calm, restorative approaches.
• Assist with wider activities beyond the classroom and contribute to inclusive practices.
