Job summary

The City of Edinburgh Council is seeking an Education Support Assistant to work in education establishments, helping pupils with additional support needs access education and meet care and wellbeing needs. • PVG Scheme membership or update required; Overseas Criminal Record Check may be required if spent time outside the UK.

Responsibilities

• Working as part of the school team to ensure health, safety and welfare of pupils; report child protection matters as needed.
• Work 1-1 and assist pupils with additional support needs to organise their day and follow instructions.
• Provide personal care to children with additional support needs (feeding, toileting, dressing) while promoting independence.
• Administering medication and completing related paperwork in line with training procedures.
• Support pupil mobility as defined by moving and handling training.
• Provide comfort and care for minor accidents, report injuries to staff per first aid procedures.
• Assist in learning activities and programmes (reading interventions, one-to-one learning, community learning opportunities).
• Contribute to planning and review of pupil support programmes; attend meetings; maintain records.
• Support development of positive relationships and emotional wellbeing using evidence-based approaches.
