Job summary

Scottish Borders Council is recruiting a Pupil Support Assistant for Yetholm Primary School. The role supports pupils with practical tasks, writing, IT use and personal care, under supervision of teaching staff.

On‑the‑job training is provided. A good standard of schooling is desirable, with collaboration across the Head Teacher and Learning Support Team to monitor progress and contribute to planning reviews.

Qualifications

• No formal qualifications are required, but an acceptable standard of school education is desirable.
• Pupil Support Assistants will be required to undertake on the job training as and when available.

Responsibilities

• Undertake tasks such as written tasks and use of IT.
• Listen to and follow instructions from teaching staff.
• Assist with self care/personal hygiene and help clean up children as needed.
• Prepare resources/materials for lessons and activities.
• Support individuals or groups as requested by the Head Teacher, Class Teacher and/or Learning Support Teacher.
• Monitor informally the progress of pupils in learning and behaviour.
• Contribute to reports for pupils for discussion at reviews and planning meetings.
• Liaise with Head Teacher, Class Teacher and/or Learning Support Teacher and other agencies as required.
