Scottish Borders Council in Hawick is seeking a Pupil Support Assistant to work closely with teaching staff to support pupils identified as having additional needs.
The role involves assisting with communication, written tasks, use of IT, mobility, self-care and toileting, supervision during breaks, feeding and medication after training, and helping implement plans. No formal qualifications are required, with on-the-job training provided.

Hours: Two positions available - 3.5 & 9.25, term time only
Salary:
3.5 Hours per week: £2,187.32 - £2,302.40 per annum
9.25 Hours per week: £5,780.77 - £6,084.90 per annum
Hourly Rate: £13.87 - £14.60
Contract Duration: Permanent

PURPOSE
To work closely and co-operatively with teaching staff to support the needs of pupils identified as having additional needs.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
To undertake tasks, which may include helping with some or all of the following, depending on the needs of the individuals:
Communication
Written tasks
Use of IT
Motor difficulties
Listening to instructions
Following instructions
Completing tasks
Mobility
Self care/personal hygiene
Toileting
Cleaning up children who have wet or soiled themselves
Social skills
Preparation of resources/materials
Supervision during intervals/lunch times
Feeding and medication (after training)
To undertake support for individuals or groups as requested by the Head Teacher, Class Teacher and/or Learning Support Teacher.
To assist in the implementation of plans, devised by the CT and or/LST or other agencies as required.
To monitor on an informal basis the progress of pupils in learning and behaviour.
To contribute to reports for pupils for discussion at review and planning meetings.
To liaise with HT, CT and/or LST and other agencies as required.
This profile is indicative of the nature and level of responsibility associated with the post. It is not exhaustive and the post holder may be required to undertake such other duties as may be required by the Head of Service to meet the needs and responsibility of the Service and the Council.
No formal qualifications are required, but an acceptable standard of school education is desirable. Pupil Support Assistants will be required to undertake on the job training as and when available.
