Job summary

The University of Cambridge invites applications for a Research Assistant/Associate to work on the ERC funded PulsarMAP project, investigating pulsar polarization and time-variability in large radio data sets. You will join Dr Lucy Oswald's group and collaborate with the Thousand-Pulsar-Array team using MeerKAT observations to map emission, mode-changing and magnetospheric physics.

Essential skills include Python, handling large data sets, and linking theory to observations.

Qualifications

• Strong Python programming experience.
• Ability to handle large data sets with ease.
• Experience with radio pulsar data, e.g. single-pulse studies, polarization, or ISM studies.
• Good communication skills and ability to relate theory to observations.
• Applicant must have a PhD for Research Associate level; RA with submitted PhD may be uplifted after award.

Responsibilities

• Study polarization and time-variability in pulsar data and relate findings to magnetospheric physics.
• Collaborate with the PulsarMAP group and the Thousand-Pulsar-Array team on MeerKAT data.
• Contribute to mapping mode-changing and scattering effects in the ISM.
