Job summary

Carrington Blake Recruitment is seeking a Street Cleansing & Grounds Maintenance Operative to join the Environmental Services team. This is a 37-hour per week role, Monday to Friday, based in the borough's outdoor public spaces.

You will perform litter picking, street cleansing, leaf clearance, waste removal and grounds maintenance, with winter maintenance duties as needed. A full UK driving licence and the ability to work outdoors in all weather are required.

Qualifications

• Full UK driving licence is required.
• Physically fit and able to undertake manual outdoor work.
• Reliable, punctual and able to work as part of a team.
• Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Good awareness of health and safety procedures.
• Ability to follow instructions and safe working practices.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Willingness to undertake street cleansing, grounds maintenance and winter maintenance duties.

Responsibilities

• Carry out litter picking, sweeping and general street cleansing across streets and public spaces.
• Leaf clearance including sweeping, collecting, bagging and removing leaves.
• Remove graffiti, fly-posting, weeds and environmental waste.
• Empty and maintain litter, dog waste and grit bins.
• Assist with removal of household, bulky, commercial and recycling waste.
• Support winter maintenance operations including snow clearance and salting.
• Undertake grounds maintenance duties: grass cutting, mowing, strimming and leaf blowing.
• Assist with planting trees, shrubs and landscaping.
• Help maintain sports areas, play areas and other public spaces.
• Operate tools and council vehicles where trained.
• Identify and report hazards and safety concerns.
• Respond to public service requests and enquiries.
• Follow health and safety procedures and wear PPE.
