Job summary

Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service is seeking a Corporate Accountant at our Headquarters in Ripley. The role offers a permanent, full-time position (37 hours per week) with a salary of £48,738 - £54,143 per year and a 25 October 2026 closing date.

You will contribute to financial planning, reporting and assurance across the Corporate Financial Services team. You must hold a full AAT qualification or be part-qualified, with desirable CCAB qualifications and public sector finance experience.

Qualifications

• You must hold a full AAT qualification or be a part-qualified accountant.
• Experience of budget setting, medium-term financial planning, monitoring and forecasting complex budgets, and producing audit-ready evidence is essential.
• CCAB qualification is desirable.
• Experience in a public sector or local government finance environment is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Producing clear financial information, analysis, forecasts and advice for senior officers, budget holders and Members.
• Supporting annual budget setting, medium-term financial planning, budget monitoring and the identification of financial risks.
• Supporting the annual closedown and preparation of the Statement of Accounts, including working papers and disclosures.
• Interpreting statutory and regulatory accounting requirements and maintaining controls and reconciliations.
• Liaising with internal and external auditors and implementing audit recommendations.
• Preparing statutory and statistical returns and committee reports on time.
• Providing financial analysis and modelling for corporate projects and service changes.
• Training colleagues and maintaining accurate financial systems and ledgers.
