Job summary

Derbyshire Fire & Rescue is seeking a Corporate Accountant to join our Corporate Financial Services team. Reporting to the Head of Accountancy, you will provide a comprehensive accountancy service aligned with national standards, handling technical accounting, budgeting, financial reporting and assurance across the Service and external partners.

You will contribute to budget setting, financial planning and audit readiness while supporting and training colleagues, ensuring timely reconciliations

Qualifications

• Strong written and verbal communication skills for non-financial managers and senior stakeholders.
• Organised, numerate and able to analyse complex issues and deliver accurate work to tight deadlines.
• Full AAT qualification or part-qualified accountant; CCAB desirable.

Responsibilities

• Producing clear financial information, analysis, forecasts and advice for senior officers, Members and budget holders.
• Supporting annual budget setting, medium-term financial planning, budget monitoring and identification of financial risks.
• Supporting annual closedown and preparation of the Statement of Accounts, including working papers and audit evidence.
• Interpreting statutory, regulatory and professional accounting requirements and maintaining controls and reconciliations.
• Liaising with internal and external auditors and implementing audit recommendations.
• Preparing statutory and statistical returns, financial reports and committee reports within timescales.
• Providing financial analysis and modelling for corporate projects and initiatives.
• Training colleagues and maintaining accurate financial systems and ledger data.
