Job summary

Derby City Council is looking for an highly organised Accountancy Apprentice to join our Accountancy – Service Support team. You will work toward the AAT Level 4 qualification while gaining practical experience in public sector accounting.

You’ll perform journal entries, reconciliations and month-end tasks, while developing skills across budgeting and forecasting in a supportive environment.

Qualifications

• Maths GCSE grade B/5 or above or equivalent.
• Finance or Accounting degree or working towards.
• English GCSE grade C/4 or above or equivalent.
• AAT Level 3 and AAT Level 4 qualifications.
• Right to work in the UK with valid driving licence (where required).

Responsibilities

• Process journals to record financial transactions in line with standards.
• Check and reconcile financial records and investigate discrepancies.
• Input data into financial systems and run reports for budgeting teams.
• Support month-end and year-end accounting procedures.
• Manage own workload while assisting the finance team with tasks.
• Exposure to budgeting and forecasting activities.
