Job summary

NHS Forth Valley is seeking a Public Protection Advisor (Adults) to lead guidance and coordination on adult protection across the public protection team. You will advise health staff on relevant legislation, processes and policy, and help develop local procedures to support practice.

You will collaborate with PVG partners and ensure robust multi‑agency working and safeguarding across the NHS Forth Valley area. A post‑graduate focus and professional registration are essential.

Qualifications

  • Experience in health or social care in an adult setting.
  • Registration with NMC or HCPC.
  • Postgraduate diploma in Adult Protection or equivalent.
  • First degree or equivalent with ability to study at postgraduate level.

Responsibilities

  • Provide guidance, advice and support to health staff on adult protection legislation, processes and policy.
  • Help develop local procedures to inform and support practice.
  • Coordinate with multi‑agency Adult Protection forums across NHS Forth Valley.
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with partner agencies.

Job description

We have an exciting opportunity for a Public Protection Advisor (Adults) to work within the NHS Forth Valley Public Protection Team.

The post holder will work closely with the Chief Nurse, Nurse Consultant, Public Protection Department Manager, Child Protection Nurse Advisors and administrative staff to deliver a high-quality adult protection response and coordination service across NHS Forth Valley. They will provide guidance, advice and support to health staff on all aspects of adult protection legislation, processes and national policy, while helping to develop local procedures that inform and support practice. In partnership with other agencies, they will build and maintain effective working relationships across the multi-agency Adult Protection forums operating throughout NHS Forth Valley.

Qualification requirements

The job requires the appropriate candidate to have experience of working in a health or social care environment in a relevant adult setting and meet the following criteria:

  • Hold a professional registration with one of the following professional bodies: Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) or the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
  • Significant post registration experience in a relevant area of care.
  • Hold or be working towards a post graduate diploma in Adult Protection or have evidence of equivalent relevant experience/study in a specialist area that relates to adult protection.
  • First level degree or equivalent and evidence of ability to study at post-graduate level.
Additional knowledge and skills
  • Ability to critically appraise research and analyse complex information.
  • Have a working knowledge of audit and self-evaluation.
  • High level of Computer skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of relevant legislation and guidance.
  • Excellent presentation, training facilitation and meeting management skills
  • A knowledge of or qualification in supervision skills
  • Ability and willingness to travel throughout the area of service delivery is essential for this post.

As from 1/4/26, the Agenda for Change full-time working week will be reducing from 37 to 36 hours per week. Part time hours will be reduced pro-rata. However, there will be a corresponding increase in the hourly rate so that pay will not be affected.
