Job overview

The core competencies will be evaluated at the start of employment; the line manager/supervisor will identify and support learning opportunities for the post holder. Each competency will be viewed as a development goal. Assessment will be conducted through observation of clinical practice, feedback from MDT members, patients, families, discussions, and constructive feedback. The postholder must provide evidence of how they achieved each domain. Once all core competencies are achieved, the postholder may be moved from band 7 to band 8a. Further details will be shared at the start of employment and via the Core Competencies document.

Main duties of the job

· Provision of specialist assessments based on the appropriate use, interpretation, and integration of complex data from various sources, including self-report measures, rating scales, observations, and interviews with clients, families, and others involved in care.

· Formulation and implementation of shared decision-making plans for intervention and management of young persons' mental health problems, employing evidence-based methods across care settings.

· Implementation of interventions for individuals, carers, families, and groups, refining formulations and maintaining provisional hypotheses.

· Evaluation and decision-making regarding intervention options, considering theoretical and therapeutic models and complex factors shaping the individual, family, or group.

You may be required to work at different locations under the Trusts to meet service needs. The Trust reserves the right to assign staff to other locations temporarily or permanently as necessary.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

This role is for a newly qualified or experienced psychologist interested in children and young people with moderate to severe learning disabilities and neurodevelopmental conditions requiring specialist community CAMHS services.

The postholder will provide external consultation, assessment, and intervention as part of the multidisciplinary team, offering clinical expertise and resources.

Upon reaching senior position as band 8a, the postholder will support service development, with the service user at the centre of care.

Person specification
General
  • Doctorate in Clinical/Counselling Psychology (or equivalent);
  • Registration with the Health Professions Council;
  • Knowledge and skills in complex assessment and intervention methods;
  • Knowledge of psychological therapies with children;
  • Skills in providing professional consultation;
  • Skills in Quality Improvement projects;
  • Experience in specialist assessment and intervention.
