Job summary

Arriva UK Bus in Harlow is seeking a skilled Shift Engineer to maintain vehicle safety, performance and reliability across our fleet. You will carry out daily inspections, attend on-road breakdowns, and support planned maintenance.

The role offers Mon-Fri 05:30–22:00, Sat 06:00–22:00, Sun 14:00–22:00, with pay at £26 per hour and overtime at £38.48. Benefits include 25 days of leave plus bank holidays and a free bus pass.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in PSV or HGV Engineering.
• Time-served experience in PSV or HGV engineering.
• Strong understanding of industry standards and safety procedures.
• Ability to diagnose faults and follow technical instructions.

Responsibilities

• Carry out daily vehicle inspections to identify faults, defects or safety issues.
• Attend on-road breakdowns, diagnosing faults and completing minor repairs where possible.
• Support planned and unplanned maintenance activities within the workshop.
• Ensure all work is completed in line with safety, legal, and Arriva engineering standards.
• Accurately complete service sheets, inspection reports and maintenance records.

We’re looking for a skilled Shift Engineerto join our Harlowengineering team. In this role, you’ll play a vital part in maintaining vehicle safety, performance, and reliability, helping ensure our services run smoothly every day.

Shift Pattern

Monday – Friday:05:30 – 22:00

Saturday:06:00 – 22:00

Sunday:14:00 – 22:00

Pay & Benefits

£26 per hour

What You’ll Be Doing

Carry out daily vehicle inspections to identify faults, defects, or safety issues

Attend on-road breakdowns, diagnosing faults and completing minor repairs where possible

Support planned and unplanned maintenance activities within the workshop

Ensure all work is completed in line with safety, legal, and Arriva engineering standards

Accurately complete service sheets, inspection reports, and maintenance records

Work collaboratively with engineers, supervisors, and operations teams to keep services running and support continuous improvement

What We’re Looking For

NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in PSV or HGV Engineering, with time-served experience

Strong understanding of industry standards, safety procedures, and diagnostics

Confident working independently and following technical instructions

Good mechanical skills and experience using workshop tools and equipment

Physically fit and able to carry out manual handling tasks

Flexible approach to shift work, including weekends
