Job summary

Reading Buses Group seeks a PSV/HGV Technician to join the Reading depot. You will inspect, repair and maintain the bus fleet to a high standard, diagnosing mechanical and electronic faults to keep services safe and reliable.

This full-time role offers day and late shifts, with an hourly rate of £29+ depending on the rota. You will work in a professional engineering team that values safety and quality workmanship.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 2 in PSV/HGV maintenance or equivalent.
• Five years' experience in repairing and maintaining public service or heavy goods vehicles.
• Strong understanding of mechanical and electronic vehicle systems.
• Able to diagnose faults and carry out repairs.
• Commitment to safety and high workmanship standards.

Job Title: PSV / HGV Technician

Location: Reading

Salary: £29+ per hour, depending on shift pattern

Job Type: Full time, Permanent. Monday-Friday days 8am - 4pm/6am - 2pm and late shift 4 on 4 off 3pm - 2am.

We are looking for PSV / HGV Technicians to join our engineering team at our Reading depot.

We want hard-working, self-starting individuals with a passion for repairing and maintaining heavy-duty vehicles. You will play an important role in ensuring our bus fleet is maintained to a high standard and operates safely and reliably.

You’ll be joining an award-winning department that is a founder member of the DVSA's Earned Recognition scheme.

This is an excellent opportunity for experienced PSV / HGV technicians, mechanics and vehicle engineers looking to develop their career within a professional and supportive engineering environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Inspect, repair, and maintain our buses to a high standard
• Investigate and diagnose mechanical and electronic faults
• Carry out preventative maintenance and repairs as required
• Record faults and the work performed to fix them using a tablet
• Follow all safety instructions and procedures
• Report any issues promptly and accurately
• Contribute to a safe, compliant and efficient workshop environment
• Ensure all work is completed to the required engineering and safety standards

Shift Patterns:

Positions are available across a range of shift patterns, including:

• Monday - Friday day shift: Alternating two-week shift pattern of 8am - 4pm & 6am - 2pm
• 4 on / 4 off late shift: 3pm - 2am
• The rate of pay will be determined by the rota you work on, with rates of £29+ per hour available.

Experience & Qualifications:

Our ideal candidates will:

• Possess at least an NVQ Level 2 qualification in the maintenance and repair of public service vehicles or heavy goods vehicles, or an equivalent international qualification
• OR have at least five years' experience in repairing and maintaining public service or heavy goods vehicles
• Be able to provide evidence of relevant experience where the five-year experience route is being used
• Provide evidence of your qualification from the awarding body
• Have a strong understanding of mechanical and electronic vehicle systems
• Be confident diagnosing faults and carrying out repairs
• Have a strong commitment to safety and high standards of workmanship
• Be hard-working, self-starting and able to work effectively as part of a team
• If you don't have an NVQ qualification, you'll need to pass the IRTEC Service Maintenance Technician exam during your six-month probation period.
• While not essential, having a PCV licence would be a great advantage.
