Are you an experienced Teaching Assistant in Bedford with a passion for supporting vulnerable students, or a Criminology graduate eager to make a real difference in education? This PRU Teaching Assistant position is for you.

We are seeking a dedicated and empathetic Teaching Assistant to join our team within a Pupil Referral Unit, where you'll work with students facing social, emotional, and behavioural challenges.

This PRU Teaching Assistant role in Bedford offers an exciting opportunity to work in a supportive environment, helping students who are at risk of exclusion or who have been excluded from mainstream education. Key Responsibilities:

  • Support students in small group settings or 1:1, focusing on academic progress and personal development
  • Assist in managing and de-escalating challenging behaviour using restorative practices and trauma-informed approaches
  • Help with planning and delivering individualised learning plans tailored to the needs of each student
  • Work alongside teachers, behavioural specialists, and safeguarding teams to provide holistic support
  • Monitor student progress, contributing to assessments and reporting back to the wider team
  • Promote social and emotional development through targeted interventions and activities

We're Looking For Someone Who:

  • Has experience as a Teaching Assistant in a mainstream or alternative education setting OR
  • Holds a degree in Criminology (or related field) and has a strong understanding of behaviour, youth crime, and social justice
  • Has a solid understanding of trauma-informed care and effective behaviour management techniques
  • Is patient, adaptable, and able to build strong relationships with vulnerable students
  • Is committed to the principle of inclusion and providing the best outcomes for every student
