Job summary

SSE Transmission is hiring a Protection Field Engineer to support protection and control systems across our network. The role focuses on ensuring high reliability and resilience of the transmission system while expanding and updating protection assets in Aberdeenshire.

You will engage in commissioning, maintenance and outage management, with opportunities to work across multiple sites and potentially remote locations. A full UK driving licence is required.

Qualifications

• Minimum qualification in electrical engineering; HNC level preferred.
• Experience with high voltage protection up to 400kV and commissioning.
• Ability to read protection diagrams (single line, schematic, block diagrams).
• SAP or HV switching authorisations up to 400kV are advantageous.
• Full UK driving licence required; willingness to travel to various sites.

Responsibilities

• Manage protection and control systems to ensure transmission network reliability.
• Support commissioning and maintenance of protection assets and projects.
• Assist with outage management, contractor liaison and budget oversight.
• Occasional travel to remote locations due to plant and equipment locations.
• Participate in paid out-of-hours standby rota for 24/7 operations.
