Job summary

SSE’s SSEN Distribution team is seeking a Protection & Control Engineer to join across the Southern Distribution Network. The Base Location options include Melksham, Oxford, Reading, Slough or Portsmouth, with a salary of £64,085–£76,581 and a comprehensive benefits package.

As a Protection & Control Engineer you will translate concepts into compliant, cost-effective designs, collaborate with stakeholders, and contribute to net-zero initiatives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a relevant field.
• Experience on Distribution Networks from 11kV to 132kV (UK distribution preferred).
• Background as a Protection & Control Design Engineer (11kV, 33kV, 132kV skills).
• Experience with protection relays, relay panels, CT & VT sizing, protection grading studies, AC/DC schematics.

Responsibilities

• Develop scoping documentation and MC&P diagrams.
• Review P&C designs from third parties for 11kV, 33kV and 132kV networks.
• Specify P&C equipment such as relays, CTs and VTs.
• Produce detailed designs, including AC/DC schematics, and protection grading studies.
• Review commissioning plans, attend panel meetings, and witness FAT and on-site commissioning.
