Job description

As a business we're growing, and our national Property Disputes practice is contributing to that through some exciting new client wins. We now have an opportunity for a Lawyer to join the team in Southampton.

What will you be doing?

Our practice is one of the largest nationally and is expanding. We have an enviable client list, made up of landlords and tenants (with national portfolios), developers and investors, ranging from significant public sector bodies to FTSE 250 household names across sectors including telecoms, retail, energy, and central and local government, as well as transport and infrastructure.

You'll play an important role in helping us grow, assisting in a wide range of contentious commercial property matters, including telecoms, landlord and tenant issues (e.g., 1954 Act renewals, dilapidations, and break notices) and general property issues such as adverse possession, easements, and title disputes. The team is extremely busy, so you'll be able to get involved in high-quality client work from the start. The Property Disputes Team works closely with our transactional Real Estate team, providing opportunities to develop strong cross-practice relationships. You'll be supported by a friendly, collegiate team committed to your development.

What does the ideal candidate look like?

Most importantly, you will have a genuine enthusiasm for this area of law and the aspiration to deliver first-class service to our clients.

You will need strong academic credentials, a thorough approach to complex legal analysis, and the ability to quickly understand complicated sets of facts. Your written advice will be clear and concise, and your commercial awareness will help you align legal advice with clients' overall objectives. Strong interpersonal skills are essential to effectively manage the different interests of our clients.

Additionally, you should be comfortable working with colleagues across different locations and disciplines, as some work involves multidisciplinary teams. This is an exciting opportunity to learn from experienced professionals and develop a career in this growing specialization.

Minimum requirements for success in this role include:

  • At least 1 year of post-qualified experience in property litigation as a UK solicitor (England, Wales, or Scotland)
  • In-depth knowledge of Landlord and Tenant Act 1954 renewals, both unopposed and opposed, ideally in managing a large property portfolio
