Job summary

A leading financial recruitment firm is seeking a Service Charge Accountant for a 6-month fixed-term contract within a real estate business in London. This role involves accounting expertise in service charge matters, posting forecasts, and preparing budget reports. Ideal candidates will have strong experience in service charge accounting, particularly in residential or mixed-use sectors. Excellent opportunity with the potential for a permanent position.

Qualifications

• Strong experience in service charge accounting, preferably residential or mixed-use.
• Solid understanding of accounting treatment of service charge transactions.
• Experience preparing statutory accounts for management companies.

Responsibilities

• Act as the internal subject matter expert on service charge accounting.
• Post monthly service charge forecasts in the property management system.
• Prepare quarterly Budget vs Actual reports and resolve queries.
• Prepare quarterly Budget vs Actual (BvA) reports and liaise with managing agents to resolve queries
• Support preparation and review of annual service charge reconciliations, including P&L and balance sheet, ensuring year-end balances reconcile to the final managing agent position
• Ensure appropriate treatment of service charge surpluses and deficits in line with leases and accounting standards
• Understand the impact of service charge activity on both the P&L and balance sheet, including accruals and prepayments

About the role

Our client is a listed Real Estate business based in the heart of London with an ever-expanding footprint and a fantastic culture. Due to the continues growth, they require an energetic Service Charge Accountant to help the finance team on a 6 months FTC basis, with strong scope to become perm.

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities

• Act as the internal subject matter expert on service charge accounting across the portfolio

• Post and monitor service charge capital projects run by estate management companies
• Prepare quarterly Budget vs Actual (BvA) reports and liaise with managing agents to resolve queries
• Support preparation and review of annual service charge reconciliations, including P&L and balance sheet, ensuring year-end balances reconcile to the final managing agent position
• Ensure appropriate treatment of service charge surpluses and deficits in line with leases and accounting standards
