Job summary

Hamilton Barnes is seeking a Proofpoint SME to lead the design, deployment, and optimisation of Proofpoint email security solutions in a large enterprise environment, covering the full Proofpoint suite.

This hybrid role is based in Wokingham on a 6-month initial contract Inside IR35, with SC clearance preferred. Responsibilities include configuring SPF/DKIM/DMARC, threat protection, and collaboration with SOC and Microsoft 365 teams.

Qualifications

Role Overview

An experienced Proofpoint Subject Matter Expert to lead the design, implementation, administration, and optimisation of Proofpoint email security solutions within a large enterprise environment. The position covers the full Proofpoint suite, spanning email threat protection, DLP, and email authentication, ensuring robust defence against phishing, malware, and advanced email-based threats. SC clearance eligibility is preferred.

Key Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary SME for the Proofpoint platform, designing, deploying, configuring, and maintaining solutions including Proofpoint Email Protection, TAP, TRAP, Email Fraud Defense, and Information Protection/DLP.
• Manage email security policies, spam filtering, malware protection, and threat detection rules, monitoring and responding to email-based security incidents.
• Configure and maintain email authentication protocols including SPF, DKIM, and DMARC, conducting threat analysis and providing recommendations to enhance email security posture.
• Collaborate with SOC, Security Operations, Infrastructure, and Microsoft 365 teams on security initiatives, supporting audits, compliance activities, and security reviews.
• Provide L3/L4 technical support, perform platform upgrades, health checks, and performance tuning, while mentoring junior security engineers and maintaining operational documentation.

• Proofpoint platform expertise - 4+ years of hands-on experience with Proofpoint solutions including PEP, TAP, TRAP, EFD, and Information Protection/DLP, within large enterprise environments.
• Email security & threat protection - Deep expertise in email security, anti-phishing controls, email gateway technologies, threat intelligence, and advanced email threat analysis and remediation.
• Email authentication protocols - Strong hands-on knowledge of SPF, DKIM, and DMARC configuration and management, with proven experience in email fraud prevention.
• Microsoft 365 & mail flow architecture - Experience working with Microsoft 365/Exchange Online, Exchange Server, SMTP routing, and mail flow architecture within enterprise environments.

Contract Details:

Rate: £450 per day Inside IR35
