We’re London’s leading homelessness charity – and we get things done.

In a city where hundreds are forced into homelessness every day, our work has never been more needed or more challenging. And we’re not shying away. We’re rolling up our sleeves to make change and helping over 10,000 Londoners every year. We prevent homelessness, provide safe places to live and give people the opportunity to rebuild their lives and transform their futures. And we never give up.

We’re here for Londoners wherever they are on their journey. We start with trust, building relationships that help people feel safe, supported, and ready to move forward. Every day, we put people first in everything we do, challenging injustice and barriers that keep people from the safety, stability and opportunity they deserve. We stand alongside people as they rebuild and shape a future that feels their own.

Joining Single Homeless Project means joining a team that’s bold, compassionate and determined to do better for the people we support and for each other. You’ll work alongside colleagues with lived experience, in a space that’s trans-inclusive, disability-friendly, and actively striving to be anti-oppressive and equitable.

We’re not perfect, but we’re real. We listen. We learn. And we push forward, together. Because this isn’t just a job. It’s a chance to lead with empathy, spark change, and help build a London where no one is left behind.

About The Project Worker Complex Needs Role

For women who have experienced homelessness, abuse, trauma and multiple disadvantage, feeling safe enough to trust someone can be the first step towards rebuilding a life. As a Project Worker in our new 17-bed women’s service in Muswell Hill, you’ll create the kind of consistent, respectful relationships that help make that possible.

You’ll work alongside women to understand what matters to them, build on their strengths and shape support around their own goals and priorities. Using gender-informed, trauma-informed and strengths-based approaches, you’ll provide practical and emotional support across areas including housing, wellbeing, substance use, relationships, finances and independent living. You’ll work patiently and creatively with women who may have had difficult experiences of services, helping them regain confidence, choice and greater control over their futures.

No two days will look the same. You might be helping a woman navigate a housing or benefits issue, responding to a safeguarding concern, coordinating support with another agency or simply being the person who remains calm and consistent when things feel difficult. You’ll balance compassionate relationship-building with effective risk management, clear professional boundaries and the practical responsibilities that keep a residential service safe and running well.

You’ll join a team building a new service from the ground up, with the opportunity to shape how women experience support from the very beginning. At Single Homeless Project (SHP), you’ll also have access to learning, development and career opportunities that help you grow your practice and take your next steps.

  • For genuine occupational requirement reasons, we are seeking applications from women only for this post (exemption under the Equality Act 2010; Schedule 9 Part 1).
About You

You know how to build trust with people who may have experienced trauma, homelessness or multiple disadvantage, including those who can find services difficult to engage with.

You can combine empathy with clear professional boundaries, staying calm and thoughtful when situations involve risk, distress or conflicting priorities.

You understand how women’s experiences of abuse, violence and inequality can affect safety, trust and engagement, and can bring a gender-informed and trauma-informed approach to your work.

You’re confident working alongside other professionals, advocating when needed and keeping the woman’s voice and choices central to decisions about her support.

You can manage a varied caseload, keep clear and accurate records and follow through on the practical details that make good support work.
