Job summary

Hill McGlynn seeks an experienced Project Senior Quantity Surveyor to join their Reigate-based team. You will deliver high-quality cost management across a portfolio of construction projects, working with clients, contractors and consultants in a hybrid setup.

The role requires strong pre- and post-contract experience, the ability to lead on cost planning, procurement and final accounts, and to mentor Junior Surveyors while maintaining client relationships and delivering value.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Quantity Surveying or related discipline is essential.
  • Significant Quantity Surveying or Cost Consultancy experience.
  • Experience in a construction consultancy is advantageous.
  • Strong pre- and post-contract QS experience.
  • Experience managing projects and client relationships with autonomy.
  • Knowledge of cost planning, procurement, tendering, valuations, variations and final accounts.
  • Knowledge of construction contracts and commercial risk.
  • Ability to mentor and develop junior Surveyors.
  • Strong client-facing and stakeholder-management skills.

Responsibilities

  • Take responsibility for Quantity Surveying and cost consultancy services across multiple projects.
  • Manage projects from feasibility and pre-construction through to completion and final account.
  • Prepare feasibility estimates, detailed cost plans and project budgets.
  • Advise clients on cost, procurement and commercial strategy.
  • Prepare tender documentation and manage competitive tender processes.
  • Analyse contractor submissions and prepare tender reports and recommendations.
  • Manage valuations, applications for payment, variations and change control.
  • Prepare detailed cost reports and forecasts for clients.
  • Monitor project expenditure against budgets.
  • Manage and negotiate final accounts.
  • Identify and manage commercial risks and opportunities.
  • Attend and lead client, design team and project meetings.
  • Develop relationships with clients, contractors and stakeholders.
  • Mentor and develop Graduate and Assistant Surveyors.

The Opportunity

Hill McGlynn are currently working with an established construction consultancy who are looking to appoint an experienced Project Senior Quantity Surveyor to join their team, based from their Reigate office. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Project Quantity Surveyor looking to take a senior role within a professional consultancy, managing their own workload and projects while also playing an important part in the support and development of junior Surveyors.

The Role

You will provide high-quality commercial and cost-management advice throughout the project lifecycle, working directly with clients, contractors and consultants across a varied portfolio of construction and property projects. The business offers hybrid working, a 37.5-hour working week and flexible start times, alongside excellent opportunities for continued professional and career development.

Key responsibilities will include:
  • Taking responsibility for Quantity Surveying and cost consultancy services across multiple projects.

About You

We are looking for an experienced and commercially strong Senior Quantity Surveyor / Senior Cost Consultant who is confident managing projects and supporting the development of less experienced members of the team.

You will ideally have:
  • A relevant degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or a related construction discipline - essential.
  • Significant Quantity Surveying or Cost Consultancy experience.
  • Previous experience within a construction consultancy would be highly advantageous.
  • Strong pre- and post-contract Quantity Surveying experience.
  • Experience managing projects and client relationships with a good degree of autonomy.
  • Strong knowledge of cost planning, procurement, tendering, valuations, variations and final accounts.
  • Good knowledge of construction contracts and commercial risk.
  • The confidence and experience to support, mentor and develop junior Surveyors.
  • Strong client-facing and stakeholder-management skills.
  • Excellent commercial, numerical and analytical abilities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organisation and the ability to manage multiple project priorities.
  • A proactive and professional approach with the ability to provide leadership when required.
  • Chartered status or progress towards a relevant professional qualification would be advantageous.
