Job summary

STRABAG is looking for a Project Quantity Surveyor to join a live project in Essex. You will be the number two on site, running the commercial side with support from a senior, offering real responsibility and exposure for career progression toward Senior QS.

The role requires main contractor experience, a stable employment history, and a degree in Quantity Surveying. On-site commute to Essex and working within a Tier 1 environment are expected.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• On-site day-to-day commercial management.
• Subcontract procurement, tendering and package appointments.

• Change control, variations, and compensation events.
• Monthly cost reporting and forecasting for Lead QS.
• Supporting client applications and valuations.
• Identify and manage commercial risk and opportunity.
• Contract administration under JCT and/or NEC.
• Collaborate with project manager and site team.

Project Quantity Surveyor | Tier 1 Main Contractor | Essex | Up to £75,000 + Package

A leading Tier 1 main contractor is looking for a Project Quantity Surveyor to join a live project in Essex.

You’ll be the number two on the project, working alongside a Lead QS who covers more than one scheme. In practice that means you’ll run the commercial side of the job day to day, with the backing of an experienced senior. It’s real responsibility and great exposure, and an ideal step for a Project QS who is ready to work towards Senior level.

The contractor delivers projects for blue-chip clients. It has a strong pipeline of work and a reputation for developing and promoting its people.

The role

• Day-to-day commercial management of the project on site
• Subcontract procurement, tendering and package appointments
• Subcontractor valuations, payments and final accounts
• Change control, variations, early warnings and compensation events
• Monthly cost reporting, CVRs and forecasting, prepared for the Lead QS
• Supporting client applications and valuations
• Identifying and managing commercial risk and opportunity
• Contract administration under JCT and/or NEC
• Working closely with the project manager, site team and supply chain

What you’ll need

• Main contractor experience is essential. You must come from a main contracting background. Consultancy-only or subcontractor-only backgrounds will not be considered.
• A stable CV is essential. The client is looking for proven commitment and solid tenure with previous employers. Frequent short-term moves will not be considered.
• Proven experience as a Project QS with a main contractor
• The confidence to run a project’s commercial side without day-to-day supervision
• A strong grasp of package management, change control and final accounts
• Good knowledge of JCT and/or NEC contracts
• A degree in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline
• Ability to commute to the Essex area

The package

• Up to £75,000 basic
• A full package including car or car allowance, bonus, pension, healthcare and holiday
• A clear progression route to Senior QS within a Tier 1 business
