Job description

Are you a Senior Project Planner with experience in the power or energy sector?

Laing O'Rourke has been appointed to deliver a new £300M substation in Margam, Wales.

This project follows our recent win on the Great Grid Partnership and is part of our focus on building certainty and resilience across our business.

The Margam substation will be reconfigured to a larger station, incorporating new gas insulated switchgears (GIS). Significant infrastructure work is required to expand the site and integrate the new GIS with existing equipment.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership for planning and coordination processes.
  • Implement and maintain the requirements of the Project Business Plan.
  • Ensure all programmes comply with project requirements.
  • Develop and agree on a logical sequence of events, adopting the most economical construction strategy.
  • Analyse performance, advise on impacts, and recommend improvements.
  • Communicate construction strategies and improvements.
  • Provide leadership, support, training, and contribute to career development.
  • Coordinate all time-related information among stakeholders, partners, and supply chain.
  • Represent the project with all stakeholders.
  • Undertake additional responsibilities as required.
  • Develop and implement process improvements.
  • Maintain and update Contract Programme and Programme to Build according to project needs.
  • Develop strategic programmes for tender, procurement, design, and construction.
  • Report on progress, issues, and mitigation strategies.
  • Coordinate with internal teams such as commercial, design, customer care, and construction.
  • Ensure delivery of planning and coordination processes.
  • Liaise with clients and other stakeholders.
  • Record and report labour efficiency.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
  • CIOB Membership.
  • Experience leading planning and controls on medium- to high-complexity projects.
  • Experience maintaining programmes and related materials.
  • Proficiency in implementing robust project controls, accurate reporting, and forecasting.
