We work across incredible global industries, delivering exciting work that is defining our future and making an important societal impact in the communities we serve. Our people power our performance – we succeed when they do. With countless opportunities to collaborate, learn, and grow, the possibilities for excellence are as varied as every individual.

Whether you want to grow as a subject matter expert or broaden your experience with roles across our international community, you’re surrounded by global specialists who want to combine their expertise and champion you to be your best. As a proudly employee-owned business, we benefit our clients, our communities, and each other, investing in creating the right space for everyone to feel empowered, included, and valued. Whatever your ambition, Mott MacDonald is where people come to be brilliant.

About the business unit

We help conceive, drive, and implement transport solutions for cities, regions, and asset owners/operators around the globe. From preparing the business case and advising on related issues - such as revenue, procurement, and environmental legislation - to delivering the completed infrastructure and helping maintain it. Our planning, engineering, environmental and management skills cover the whole project cycle. We play a major role in developing and delivering the Global Transport Sector Strategy.

Overview of the role

As a P6 Project Planner, you will develop, maintain and monitor integrated project schedules using Oracle Primavera P6. You will support the successful delivery of rail and other major infrastructure projects by providing accurate planning, progress measurement, forecasting and reporting throughout the project lifecycle.

Working closely with project managers, engineers, commercial teams, contractors and clients, you will develop work breakdown structures, activities, milestones, logic links and baselines; integrate inputs from multiple disciplines and suppliers; and ensure programmes meet contractual, governance and planning requirements. You will gather and validate progress information, monitor performance against baseline, identify critical-path issues, risks and opportunities, and recommend recovery or mitigation actions.

You will produce look-ahead programmes, schedule variance analysis, forecasts, dashboards and KPI reports, and assess the programme impact of changes and variations. Where applicable, you will support earned value management, schedule risk assessment and alignment between schedule, cost and risk information. You will also facilitate planning and coordination meetings, present schedule updates and recovery plans, and contribute to project reviews and client audits.

You will join a collaborative project management and controls team supporting multidisciplinary rail projects, from renewal schemes to complex design-and-build programmes and rolling stock initiatives. The role offers the opportunity to broaden your project-controls experience, contribute to planning standards and best practice, and develop your career on major infrastructure programmes in the UK and internationally.

  • Demonstrable experience in project planning and scheduling within major capital projects, infrastructure, construction management, engineering, energy, rail, utilities or a related sector
  • Advanced proficiency in Oracle Primavera P6, including the development and maintenance of work breakdown structures, logic-linked activities, milestones, constraints and baselines
  • Strong understanding of project lifecycle delivery, critical-path analysis, progress measurement, forecasting, schedule optimisation and change control
  • Ability to integrate schedules across multiple disciplines, contractors and suppliers and to assess schedule impacts arising from changes and variations
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with close attention to detail, data quality and the reliability of forecasts
  • Experience producing clear planning reports, look-ahead programmes, schedule variance analysis, dashboards and KPI information
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills and the ability to communicate schedule information clearly through reports and presentations
  • Effective communication and stakeholder-management skills, with the confidence to facilitate planning meetings and constructively challenge assumptions
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, manage competing priorities and meet reporting deadlines
  • Degree or equivalent qualification in engineering, construction management, project management, business or a related discipline
  • APM Project Management Qualification (PMQ) or equivalent professional qualification or accreditation
  • Experience of resource - or cost-loaded scheduling, earned value management and schedule risk assessment
  • Experience of resource- or cost-loaded scheduling, earned value management and schedule risk assessment
  • Familiarity with Power BI, Microsoft Project, SAP or other project-controls tools

If you meet 80% or more of what we’re looking for, please still apply. We understand not everyone will meet all the requirements, but you might have skills we didn’t know we need.
