Job summary

Mott MacDonald is recruiting for talented Design Managers and Project Engineers to deliver a diverse portfolio of rail and transport projects across the UK and internationally. You will work with experienced professionals on projects for HS2, TfL, East West Rail, Network Rail and Irish Rail.

This role offers a path toward leadership and broad experience in multidisciplinary design and systems integration. The team supports feasibility through to construction, with opportunities to develop

Qualifications

  • Essential: Degree in Engineering or related discipline.
  • Experience within multidisciplinary engineering or infrastructure projects.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to coordinate activities across multiple disciplines and interfaces.

Responsibilities

  • Support the planning, coordination and delivery of multidisciplinary engineering and design activities.
  • Manage design programmes, deliverables and interfaces to ensure projects progress efficiently.
  • Coordinate engineering teams, stakeholders and suppliers to deliver successful project outcomes.
  • Support the management of design risks, assumptions, issues, dependencies and opportunities.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of digital and information management solutions.
  • Work closely with clients to understand requirements and develop practical engineering solutions.
  • Promote collaborative working across disciplines and project teams.

About the business unit

We help conceive, drive, and implement transport solutions for cities, regions, and asset owners/operators around the globe. From preparing the business case and advising on related issues - such as revenue, procurement, and environmental legislation - to delivering the completed infrastructure and helping maintain it. Our planning, engineering, environmental and management skills cover the whole project cycle. We play a major role in developing and delivering the Global Transport Sector Strategy.

Overview of the role

Our Rail Engineering Management team is growing, and we are looking for talented Design Managers and Project Engineers to help deliver a diverse portfolio of rail and transport projects across the UK and internationally.

You will work alongside experienced engineering, design and systems professionals on projects for clients including High Speed Two (HS2), Transport for London (TfL), East West Rail, Network Rail and Irish Rail. This is an excellent opportunity for engineers looking to broaden their experience in multidisciplinary design, systems integration and project delivery while developing towards leadership roles.

Our team supports projects through every stage of the lifecycle, from feasibility and optioneering through to detailed design, construction and commissioning. We work across a wide range of disciplines including engineering management, design management, project engineering, systems engineering, assurance, information management, BIM, testing and commissioning and project management.

  • Support the planning, coordination and delivery of multidisciplinary engineering and design activities

Candidate specification

Essential:

  • Degree qualified in Engineering or a related discipline
  • Experience working within multidisciplinary engineering or infrastructure projects
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to coordinate activities across multiple disciplines and interfaces
  • Commercial awareness and focus on delivering client value
  • Ability to identify and solve technical and project delivery challenges
  • Experience working collaboratively within project teams while taking ownership of assigned responsibilities

Desirable:

  • Experience within the rail, transport or infrastructure sectors
  • Understanding of design management, project engineering or systems engineering principles
  • Knowledge of BIM and digital delivery tools
  • Experience supporting engineering assurance activities
  • Membership, or working towards membership, of a relevant professional institution
  • Experience coordinating multidisciplinary engineering teams and stakeholders
