Job Description

United Living are recruiting for a Mechanical Engineer to join our growing Major Projects team to provide engineering support for major infrastructure projects.This is a project role, based at our head office at Warrington and requiring travel to work at site and from our designers office in London.

All of the projects being developed are Nationally Significant Infrastructure projects across the UK, the first being a Carbon Capture Pipeline in the North West commencing from January 2025.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Design and Development:

  1. Lead the design and development of process, pipelines, piping and other mechanical elements.
  2. Ensure designs meet industry standards, safety regulations, and client specifications.
  3. Utilize CAD software to create detailed mechanical drawings and specifications.
  4. Manage multiple elements of the project from conception to completion, ensuring timely delivery within budget.
  5. Develop project plans, schedules, and budgets, and monitor progress against these plans.
  6. Coordinate with clients, vendors, and internal teams to ensure project requirements are met.
  7. Conduct system functionality assessments to ensure optimal performance of the designed systems.
  8. Identify and resolve issues related to system integration, performance, and reliability.
  9. Implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance system efficiency and effectiveness.
  10. Provide technical guidance and support to junior engineers and other team members.
  11. Stay updated with the latest industry trends, technologies, and best practices.
  12. Conduct feasibility studies and risk assessments for new projects and technologies.

Documentation and Reporting:

  1. Prepare and maintain detailed project documentation, including design specifications, test plans, and progress reports.
  2. Present project updates and technical findings to stakeholders and senior management.
Qualifications

Skills & Experience:

Proven experience in pipeline design or piping design for high pressure systems. We particularly seek candidates with experience and understanding of cross country pipelines in the UK.
Project management skills, including the ability to prioritize tasks, manage competing deadlines, and coordinate activities across multiple projects.
Strong understanding of either planning regulations, environmental legislation, or land rights and regulatory frameworks relevant to infrastructure projects.
Excellent interpersonal skills. Ability to contribute and work well with a team.
Evidence of success in forming and maintaining working relationships in a multi-disciplinary environment.
Good negotiation/collaboration skills to ensure full support within the framework.
Leadership. Ability to work as part of a team, leading all matters relevant to the relevant discipline.
Up to date with the latest developments in Professional Competence.

Qualifications:

Relevant degree that provide a solid foundation such as Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering, or closely related field or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.

Additional Information:

  1. Must be highly computer literate including Microsoft Office and confident in managing and working with data.
  2. Must be a good time keeper. This job is a full-time role, 8am-5pm Monday to Friday.
  3. This is an office-based role working with the management team at the head office at Lingley Mere, Warrington and on site with projects as required.
