At Mace, our purpose is to redefine the boundaries of ambition. We believe in creating responsible places that bring transformative impact to our people, communities, and societies worldwide. To learn more about our purpose, culture, and priorities, visit our strategy site.

Within our consult business, we combine leading-edge practical expertise with project delivery consultancy to unlock potential in every project.

The project:

Our client is one of the largest water companies in the UK, responsible for water and wastewater services in England. Their purpose is to deliver services sustainably, beneficially, and responsibly, creating long-term value. We provide a range of services focused on programme and project management and seek opportunities to add value through expert and strategic staffing.

Your role involves planning and leading the successful delivery of a programme by an 'Area delivery team' comprising the client's partners and contractors, aligning with their values and requirements: health and safety, target operating model, and outcomes related to regulation, customer satisfaction, and resilience. You will act as the interface between the delivery team and senior business management, managing stakeholders to ensure successful capital programme delivery in line with strategy.

Our values:
  • Safety first - Going home safe and well:
Promote safety, exhibit safety behaviors, share lessons learned, and support wellbeing. Possess technical safety expertise relevant to the project portfolio. Champion diversity, inclusion, and wellbeing.
  • Client focus - Deliver on our promise:
Manage quality systems, project plans from inception to handover, support project teams, ensure projects meet quality, time, and budget targets. Oversee contract administration, compliance, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Integrity - Always do the right thing:
Manage budgets, identify risks, support long-term business development, and uphold company values for positive impact.
  • Create opportunity - For our people to excel:
Lead design and consultant teams, manage project KPIs, and foster knowledge sharing and best practices.
Qualifications and experience:
  • A degree in engineering, construction, or project management, with membership in a relevant institute (e.g., ICE, IMechE, RICS) and completion of the APM PMQ course.
  • Based in the northwest of England, willing to travel to multiple sites. Water sector experience preferred; 10+ years project management experience required.
  • Familiar with project management tools like Oracle and Primavera P6. Strong client relationship skills and team leadership abilities.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
Additional desirable qualities:
  • Memberships in RICS, CIOB, APM, ICE, or similar.
  • Property or infrastructure project management expertise, commercial acumen, experience in large teams, stakeholder relationship development, and knowledge of sustainability considerations.
