Within our consulting business, we leverage our unique combination of practical expertise and project delivery consultancy to unlock potential in every project.

The project:

Our client is one of the largest water companies in the UK, responsible for water and wastewater services in England. Their purpose is to deliver services sustainably, economically, and responsibly, creating long-term value. We provide services focused on programme and project management and seek opportunities to add value through expert and strategic staffing. Your role involves planning and leading the successful delivery of a programme of works by an 'Area delivery team' comprising the client’s partners and contractors, aligning with their values and requirements: health and safety, target operating model, and outcomes related to regulation, customer service, and resilience. You will act as the interface between the delivery team and senior management, managing stakeholders to ensure the programme's success.

Our values shape our consulting approach and define the people we want to join us:

Safety first - Going home safe and well:

You will promote Mace's safety values, exhibit safety behaviors, share lessons learned, and support safety and wellbeing using Mace's HSW framework.

You will have technical expertise in local health and safety regulations relevant to the project portfolio.

You will champion diversity and inclusion and prioritize team wellbeing.

You will ensure quality systems are managed effectively to deliver service excellence.

You will deliver and manage project plans from inception through design, procurement, and construction, ensuring adherence to schedules and milestones.

You will support senior project managers by managing tasks and deliverables to ensure timely and accurate project delivery.

You will own projects throughout their lifecycle, from concept to handover and closeout.

You will prepare and update project management plans, monitor progress, manage interdependencies, and address issues or risks proactively.

You will drive design development, conduct surveys and site visits, and develop works information aligned with the business case.

You will undertake contract administration, with a thorough understanding of NEC3/4 contracts.

You will ensure projects meet quality, time, and budget requirements.

You will write specifications, tender, and contract documents, including risk registers and schedules, with procurement support.

You will ensure compliance with environmental, CDM 2015, health and safety, water quality standards, and statutory legislation.

You will conduct reviews, inspections, and audits regularly.

You will manage contractors to ensure project execution meets client satisfaction.

You will handle contract administration tasks such as payments, EWN, and CE processes.

You will coordinate third-party engagements like planning applications, land access, and power negotiations in line with project timelines.

You will understand client requirements and engage stakeholders effectively, including complex third-party relations.

Integrity - Always do the right thing:

You will manage project budgets, identify risks, and develop mitigations.

You will support the long-term growth of your function or Business Unit, fostering sustainability.

You will aim to make a positive impact on people, clients, and the environment, holding others accountable to Mace’s values.

Create opportunity - For our people to excel:

You will manage design and consulting teams collaboratively to ensure responsibilities are met.

You will oversee project teams and stakeholders to achieve KPIs.

You will network and learn from best practices, utilizing Mace’s knowledge resources.

Requirements:

A degree in engineering, construction, or project management, and membership of an appropriate institute (e.g., ICE, IMechE, IET, IChemE, RICS). Completion of the APM PMQ course is required.

Willingness to work seconded to the client in northwest England, with travel to multiple sites. Main HQ is in Warrington.

Familiarity with project management tools like Oracle and Primavera P6. Ability to build client relationships and lead teams.

Experience managing large infrastructure projects, preferably in water utilities, with a desire to grow your career.
