Job Description:

The role

The role will be primarily focused on all aspects of the waste, recycling, and circular economy sectors, contributing to business development activities and assisting other specialists on a range of projects both in the UK and overseas.

You will work with others in the process engineering team and across various disciplines, including Advisory, Environmental Management and Compliance, Land and Water, and Environmental Specialist Services groups, on diverse projects. Your key responsibilities will include:

  1. Managing waste, recycling, and circular economy projects throughout their lifecycle, including preparing concept designs and conducting feasibility studies;
  2. Reviewing third-party designs, technical proposals, operational models, and preparing technical due diligence reports for funders;
  3. Preparing technical and procurement documentation, schematics/drawings, and managing contracts during plant construction projects;
  4. Developing models to analyze plant energy and mass balances, emission rates, and financial/operational metrics, including thermodynamic calculations;
  5. Conducting on-site inspections, witnessing, verification, supervision of construction, commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting operational plants, including waste, recycling, and renewable energy projects;
  6. Building relationships with clients, attending conferences, developing prospects, writing proposals, and securing new projects;
  7. Supporting other teams within SLR with technical and process engineering expertise.

About you

You will hold an engineering degree and have experience managing projects in waste, recycling, or related fields. You should work well in teams, possess excellent communication skills, and have a positive, friendly attitude.

Essential qualifications and skills

  • Degree in Engineering or a related field;
  • Significant project management experience in recycling and waste/recovery sectors;
  • Proficiency in data analysis, basic modeling, and report writing, with strong IT skills in Excel, Word, PowerPoint;
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively;
  • Organized, logical thinker, with good communication skills;
  • Valid UK driving license and willingness to travel.

Desirable qualifications

  • Master's degree in a relevant field;
  • Chartered Engineer or working towards it;
  • Experience with site operations, health and safety, CDM regulations;
  • Experience in operations, contract management, procurement;
  • Commitment to sustainability and environmental targets.
