Job Description:

The role

The role will be primarily focused on all aspects of the waste, recycling, and circular economy sectors. It will contribute to business development activities and assist other specialists on a range of projects both in the UK and overseas.

You will work with others in the process engineering team and other disciplines across the business, including Advisory, Environmental Management and Compliance, Land and Water, and Environmental Specialist Services Groups, on various projects. Your key responsibilities will include:

  1. Managing waste, recycling, and circular economy projects throughout their lifecycle, including preparing concept designs and conducting feasibility studies;
  2. Reviewing third-party designs, technical proposals, operational models, and writing technical due diligence reports for funders;
  3. Preparing technical and procurement documentation, schematics/drawings, and managing contracts during plant construction projects;
  4. Developing models for plant energy and mass balances, emission rates, and financial/operational metrics, including thermodynamic calculations;
  5. Conducting on-site inspections, witnessing, verification, supervision of construction, commissioning, testing projects, and troubleshooting operational plant, including waste and recycling operations and other renewable energy projects;
  6. Building relationships with clients, attending conferences, developing prospects, writing proposals, and securing new projects;
  7. Supporting other teams within SLR with technical and process engineering expertise.

About you

You will have an engineering degree and experience managing projects in waste and recycling or related fields. You should be a team player, with excellent communication skills, a positive attitude, and friendly demeanor.

Essential qualifications and skills:

  • Degree in Engineering or a related field;
  • Significant project management experience in recycling, waste, or recovery sectors;
  • Numerate with data handling, basic modeling, and excellent report writing skills; proficient in Excel, Word, PowerPoint;
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
  • Well-organized, logical, friendly, and communicative; and
  • Valid UK driving license with ability to travel.

Desirable qualifications:

  • Master's degree in a relevant field;
  • Chartered Engineer or working towards professional membership;
  • Experience with site operations, health and safety, and CDM regulations;
  • Experience in operations, contract management, and procurement; and
  • Commitment to sustainability and environmental targets.
