Job Description:

The role

will be primarily focused on all aspects of the waste, recycling and circular economy sectors and will contribute to business development activities and assisting other specialists on a range of projects both in the UK and overseas.

You will work with others in the process engineering team and other disciplines across the business including the Advisory, Environmental Management and Compliance, Land and Water and Environmental Specialist Services Groups on a wide variety of different projects. Your key responsibilities will include:

  1. Managing waste, recycling, and circular economy projects across the project lifecycle, including preparing concept designs and conducting feasibility studies;
  2. Assisting with review of third-party designs, technical proposals, operational models, and writing technical due diligence reports for funders;
  3. Preparing technical and procurement documentation, schematics/drawings, and managing contracts during plant construction projects;
  4. Developing models to determine plant energy and mass balances, emission rates, and financial/operational metrics, including thermodynamic calculations;
  5. Conducting on-site inspections, witnessing, verification, supervision of construction, commissioning, testing projects, and troubleshooting operational plants, including waste and recycling operations (thermal, mechanical, biological) and renewable energy projects;
  6. Developing relationships with clients, attending conferences, writing proposals, and securing new projects;
  7. Supporting other teams within SLR with technical and process engineering expertise.

About you

You will have an engineering degree and experience managing projects in waste, recycling, or related fields. You should be a team player with excellent communication skills, positive attitude, and friendliness.

Essential qualifications and experience:

  • Degree in Engineering or a similar field;
  • Significant project management experience in recycling, waste, recovery, or related sectors;
  • Strong numeracy skills, data handling, basic modeling, and excellent report writing; IT proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint;
  • Ability to work independently and in teams;
  • Organized, logical thinker, friendly, and communicative;
  • Valid UK driving license with travel ability.

Desirable qualifications and experience:

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field;
  • Chartered Engineer or working towards professional membership;
  • Experience with site operations, health and safety, CDM regulations;
  • Experience in operations, contract management, procurement;
  • Commitment to sustainability and environmental targets.
