Job summary

Morgan Sindall Infrastructure is seeking a Project Manager – HV M&E to lead the end-to-end HV M&E scope on a major National Grid transmission project in Gwynedd, UK. You will drive delivery with engineering, construction, commercial, planning, and client teams and manage interfaces with suppliers and subcontractors.

The role focuses on safe, high-quality outcomes aligned with programme requirements, while supporting outage planning and handover activities.

Qualifications

  • HND, Degree Apprenticeship, Degree, or equivalent qualification in Engineering, Construction, or a related discipline.
  • Membership of a relevant professional institution such as the IET, ICE, or APM, or working towards professional accreditation, is desirable.
  • Experience managing HV M&E installation works within electricity transmission, utilities, power, or major infrastructure projects.
  • Experience delivering substation construction, extension, refurbishment, or upgrade projects.
  • Experience coordinating HV activities across design, construction, commissioning, and operational interfaces.
  • Strong leadership and stakeholder management experience.

We are seeking a motivated and ambitious Project Manager - HV M&E to join our team and lead the delivery of the High Voltage Mechanical & Electrical scope on a major National Grid transmission project. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the delivery of critical energy infrastructure that will support the future resilience and growth of the UK's electricity network.

As Project Manager - HV M&E, you will be responsible for managing the end-to-end delivery of HV M&E works across complex substation projects, ensuring activities are delivered safely, efficiently, to the highest quality standards, and in line with programme requirements. Working closely with engineering, construction, commercial, planning, and client teams, you will drive project performance while managing key interfaces with equipment suppliers, specialist subcontractors, and stakeholders.

This role offers exposure to major transmission infrastructure, including both new-build and operational substations, providing excellent opportunities for professional growth and long‑term career development within a growing portfolio of energy projects.

Role Responsibilities
  • Lead the safe and successful delivery of the HV M&E scope across major transmission and substation projects.
  • Manage HV M&E activities from design and procurement through installation, testing, commissioning, and final handover.
  • Ensure works are delivered in accordance with programme requirements, technical specifications, quality standards, and client expectations.
  • Monitor project performance, progress, risks, opportunities, and key interfaces affecting delivery.
  • Drive the resolution of technical and construction challenges to maintain project objectives and programme commitments.
  • Champion a positive health, safety, environmental, and quality culture across all project activities.
  • Develop and implement appropriate Safe Systems of Work.
  • Ensure all construction activities comply with project procedures, industry regulations, and relevant technical standards.
  • Support outage planning, access requirements, testing, commissioning, and energisation activities.
  • Manage specialist HV subcontractors, equipment suppliers, and installation teams.
  • Coordinate the delivery, installation, and integration of major HV equipment and associated systems.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, contractors, designers, and project stakeholders.
  • Function as a key point of contact for the HV M&E scope, ensuring effective communication and collaboration throughout project delivery.
  • Coordinate HV works alongside civil engineering, design, commissioning, and operational activities.
  • Manage technical interfaces to ensure seamless project delivery across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ensure works are delivered in accordance with approved designs, specifications, and industry best practice.
  • Support project planning, programme management, construction sequencing, and risk mitigation activities.
Qualifications

  • Experience managing specialist subcontractors, suppliers, and site delivery teams.
  • Experience coordinating HV activities across design, construction, commissioning, and operational interfaces.
  • Experience managing safety, quality, programme performance, and construction risk.
  • Experience working within live or operational HV environments.
  • Strong leadership and stakeholder management experience.
Technical Knowledge
  • Strong understanding of HV substation M&E installation and delivery.
  • Knowledge of Air Insulated Substation (AIS) equipment and installation methodologies.
  • Understanding of major HV plant and equipment, including:
  • Transformers and reactors
  • Circuit breakers
  • Disconnectors
  • Surge arresters
  • Current transformers (CTs)
  • Voltage transformers (VTs)
  • Busbar systems
  • Earthing systems
  • Auxiliary systems
  • Understanding of protection and control interfaces to support installation and commissioning activities.
  • Knowledge of HV construction safety requirements and Safe Systems of Work.
  • Understanding of testing, commissioning, and handover processes for HV assets.
  • Working knowledge of National Grid technical standards and specifications, or equivalent transmission network standards.
  • Understanding of project controls, programme management, and construction risk management.
  • Competent in Microsoft Office and project management systems.
Desirable
  • Experience working on National Grid or equivalent transmission network projects.
  • Experience delivering transmission substations up to 400kV.
  • Experience working on both new-build substations and extensions within operational sites.
  • Experience coordinating major HV equipment manufacturers and specialist installation contractors.
  • Experience with outage planning and operational asset interfaces.
  • Experience managing projects from early design and pre-construction phases through to commissioning and handover.
  • Familiarity with NEC contracts and collaborative delivery models.
  • Experience working on large multidisciplinary infrastructure programmes.
