Job description

Mace combines construction expertise with consultancy to unlock potential in every person or project and redefine the boundaries of ambition. Our values shape the way we consult and define the people we want to join us on our journey.

The project:

As delivery partner on the Ministry of Justice’s Capacity Programme, Mace’s team have been supporting the MoJ’s estate for more than a decade. The existing team has a proven track record of successfully delivering a wide variety of projects of the highest quality across the MoJ prison portfolio. You will be working on one the largest Mace programmes of works with an alliance framework contractor and established professional team. The projects incorporate the latest modern methods of construction and standardised processes.

This role is a great opportunity for a Project Manager to join a new Aftercare service within our growing Strategic Integration Team. Strategic Integration focus on continuous improvement, consistency, collaboration and knowledge to support our client and Mace colleagues across the whole portfolio of MoJ works.

Specifically, this role will focus on the aftercare period of projects. Working with good levels of autonomy, the role will be a blend of co-ordinating post-completion tasks and developing process improvement and standardisation initiatives to benefit the wider MoJ programme and beyond. Smooth handovers lead to smooth aftercare periods; the continuous improvement elements of this role naturally stretch it beyond just the aftercare period.

The role offers opportunity to candidates looking to apply their project experience and skills in a dynamic role with great levels of exposure and autonomy. You’ll employ a strong “finisher/completer” mindset to manage post completion defects and tasks to their conclusion. You’ll also work effectively as an internal and external consultant ensuring the collaboration and knowledge share needed to deliver measurable change through initiatives that bring continuous improvement and consistency in delivery.

The role entails hybrid working

Occasional attendance on site may be required and there is an expectation to regularly collocate with Aftercare and Strategic Integration colleagues in our London or Birmingham offices.

You’ll Be Responsible For
  • Ensuring quality systems are suitably managed in line with service excellence.
  • Delivering and managing project plans from project inception/brief, through design development and planning, contractor procurement and construction phase in accordance with the overall delivery program and agreed project milestones.
  • Managing tasks and associated deliverables in support of senior project managers and other leaders, alongside the wider project and client teams, to ensure the timely and accurate delivery of the project.
  • Bringing the multidisciplinary project team together to manage the outputs of the feasibility study, including commissioning surveys, coordinating design outputs, undertaking client reviews, and managing any changes to scope.
  • Developing and managing effective communication and liaison with all relevant internal and external stakeholders to ensure that requirements are identified, assessed, and appropriately integrated into the project.
  • Working with the client and reporting to the project lead responsible for helping to establish the strategy and delivery for the project.
  • Assisting in developing the client’s brief, delivery strategy and leading the design management, procurement and execution of the scheme.
  • Understanding of the design process throughout all stages of the project lifecycle and able to manage outputs and technical aspects as they arise.
  • Producing strategic project programme and have the ability to scrutinise and integrate programmes from consultants and contractors.
  • Understanding of risk management and able to work with project teams to identify, schedule and establish mitigation strategy for project risks.
  • Coordinating, planning and managing internal and external meetings in relation to the project.
  • Driving the procurement of services and works required to deliver the project, including site surveys.
  • Understanding of budgets, estimates and ability to review and challenge contractors’ proposals.
  • Providing input into client system safety and project risk assessment and management process.
  • Directing management of contract suppliers under the NEC4 suite of contract, from design and manufacture to delivery and final account.
  • Managing interfaces across multiple projects within the delivery programme to deliver optimum programme efficiencies and site completion.
  • Managing pre-contract design development and post-contract scope changes in an efficient manner.
You’ll Need To Have
