Job summary

Amey Consulting is seeking a permanent Project Manager to join our Rail Design team. You will lead a multidisciplinary PM effort across major rail schemes, coordinating design integration and mentoring junior PMs.

The role requires experience in PM, health and safety compliance, and delivering within client and statutory standards. We offer hybrid, flexible working patterns with offices across the UK, including York, Birmingham, Derby, Manchester, and more.

Qualifications

• Developed experience and expertise within the field of Project Management.
• Experience in health, safety and welfare management (e.g. Integrated Management System and CDM Regulations).
• Capable of acting as day-to-day main PM contact for a project when required.
• Ownership for preparation and checking deliverables to a reasonable standard.
• Strong working knowledge of project management software and analytical tools.
• Demonstrates commercial awareness and interface management expertise.
• Successful completion of professional review or end point assessment for Incorporated/Chartered status or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team to deliver technically sound PM deliverables, meeting standards and client requirements.
• Prepare, check and maintain PM information for commissions.
• Oversee junior staff and mentor where needed.
• Manage budgets and costs to ensure project profitability.

We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Project Manager to join our Consulting Rail Design team. With shared office space in Birmingham, Derby, Manchester, York, Bristol and Cardiff, we welcome applications from Senior Project Managers across these regions.

Supporting our growing project management team, delivering work on our major projects such as Northern Power House Rail, Eastern Routes Partnership, North West & Central framework, Core Valley Lines, Trans-Pennine Route Upgrade and Cardiff Crossrail. Our in house engineers deliver design across all NR stages and all rail disciplines.

The role

Our Project Managers play an important part within the Rail Design team and alongside our client. As a Project Manager you will be a key part of the team, acting as a team leader and taking responsibility for supporting your Project Management team in coordinating the integration of multidisciplinary designs across a variety of rail design schemes whilst taking the lead on projects and mentoring junior Project Managers.

Responsibilities include:

• To lead a team to product technically sound project management deliverables, complying with all relevant technical standards and client requirements
• The preparation, checking and maintenance of project management related information that ables Amey Consulting commissions to be delivered whilst satisfying the overarching criteria of quality, cost and programme.
• Overseeing the actions of more junior members of staff undertaking similar tasks and taking responsibility for their actions
• Responsibility for the commercial success of the projects within their portfolio, controlling budgets and managing the costs associated with the production of deliverables
• Liaising with client and supplier representatives at peer level, attending progress meetings, responding to queries etc.
• Contributing to the preparation of bids and the general work winning function
• Drive effective health and safety practices within the team

What you will bring to us:

• Developed experience and expertise within the field of Project Management, probably gained in a Project Management role or equivalent
• Experienced in undertaking project related tasks associated with the management of health, safety and welfare, e.g. Amey’s Integrated Management System and the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations
• Capable of acting as day-to-day main project management contact for a project where required under the terms of the commission
• Can take ownership for the preparation and checking of deliverables to a reasonable standard
• Very good working knowledge of project management software and similar analytical tools
• Demonstrates good commercial awareness
• Demonstrates a good understanding of interface management
• Successful completion of either the professional review or end point assessment, resulting in the award of Incorporated or Chartered status or an equivalent professional licence
• Bachelors or Masters Degree in an appropriate subject
• Full membership of the Association for Project Management
• Association for Project Management Project Professional Qualification (PPQ) or equivalent
