Responsibilities

  • Deliver projects to time and budget with client satisfaction.
  • Coordinate with client on technical queries before works start.
  • Develop work package scopes as required by the client.
  • Ensure CPPs, SWPs, risk assessments and permits are in place.
  • Maintain accurate records and communicate progress to client and team.
  • Manage day-to-day issues and monitor progress against programme.
  • Inspect quality and sign off stages with client involvement.
  • Prepare handover documentation on completion.

Job description

Pro Rail Services are currently looking to recruit a Project Manager to work in our office based in Welwyn Garden City on a full-time basis.

The role purpose is the management and delivery of works on time, in accordance with safety and environmental requirements, within budget and to the client’s satisfaction. To maintain accurate records and develop strong working relationships with the client. Responsible for planning staff and SSOW delivery.

Key accountabilities
  • Liaising with the client regarding technical queries prior to start of works on site
  • Liaising with the resourcing staff regarding resource availability
  • Liaising with the Head of Estimating to develop scopes and quotations for submission to clients – ditto for V.O. changes on existing projects
  • Develop work package scopes as required by the client
  • Verifying that the specified levels of protection are appropriate to location and nature of work
  • Deal with issues arising from each project
  • Generate project and possessions programme
  • Assess plant and material requirements
  • Liaising with purchasing department to ensure all project supply chain requirements are delivered on time
  • Ensure that all CPPs, WPPs, Section 61, traffic management orders, ecology surveys, risk assessments and safe systems of work as appropriate are in place prior to start on site
  • Attend pre start meetings with client
  • To ensure that Safe System of Work Packs (SWP) have been prepared for activities as required by our Safe Work Planner
Controlling the work
  • Understanding of design to relevant standards and management of processes as required by a CRE nomination
  • Keep accurate records of all work carried out
  • Ensure client receives communications on progress and problems include General Manager in on communications
  • Manage day to day issues as the project progresses
  • Monitor progress of the works, keeping to programme
  • Inspect quality of work and signed off at stages
  • Record information for hand over documentation
Completion
  • Inspect works and snag with client
  • Sign off each job as complete
  • Complete hand over documentation
Reports
  • Report on operatives/subcontractors’ performance, workmanship and quality of finished job on each completed job
  • Shift reports
  • CCTV survey reports (where appropriate)
  • Develop improvement plans for future works based on ‘lessons learned’
Responsibilities
  • Deliver projects to the agreed budget
  • Do not start works without a client PO
  • Ensure volume on works delivered is applied for each period
  • Liaison with customers
  • Liaison with the Programme Manager
  • Liaison with HSQE Director on specific issues outside of competency
  • Liaison with the Training Manager
  • Liaison with the Commercial Director
  • NR Life Saving Rules Compliance
The ideal candidate will have
  • Engineering / construction – degree or HND
  • Current full driving license
  • Safety Awareness
  • CSCS Card
  • 3 years’ post qualification experience in construction industry
  • 5 years’ project management experience in a related field
  • 7 years’ experience in the railway industry
Knowledge
  • Design standards and processes applicable to railway civil engineering works
  • CPP, works package plan and risk assessment preparation
  • Network Rail environment including on and off-track working
