Job summary

Spencer Group, a leading engineering and construction company in the UK, is seeking a Project Coordinator within the Rail Division. You will support planning, budgeting, and delivery of rail infrastructure projects across the UK, coordinating between clients, subcontractors and internal teams to ensure on-time, on-budget delivery.

The role requires a degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline, strong organisational skills, and a full UK driving licence.

Qualifications

  • Degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related discipline.
  • Experience in construction, civil engineering, or rail infrastructure.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Proficient with Excel, Word, and Project.
  • Ability to prioritise workload and manage multiple tasks.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Full UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Project Manager in planning, coordination and delivery of rail projects.
  • Assist with preparation and maintenance of project programmes, budgets and delivery plans.
  • Monitor progress against programme and report milestones.
  • Coordinate communication between internal teams, clients, subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Attend project meetings, prepare agendas, minutes and track actions to completion.
  • Assist in managing project documentation and ensuring compliance with procedures.
  • Support commercial activities including procurement, valuations, cost tracking and change management.
  • Identify risks and opportunities; maintain risk and issue registers.
  • Prepare progress reports and client updates.
  • Ensure health, safety, environmental and quality standards are upheld.
  • Support management of design deliverables and technical information.
  • Coordinate site activities and ensure resource availability.
  • Assist with completion documentation, handover packs and lessons learned.
  • Build positive relationships with clients, stakeholders and delivery partners.

Description of Role

Our Rail Division specialises in the design, fabrication, and delivery of complex rail infrastructure projects, working collaboratively with clients, principal contractors, and Network Rail to deliver safe, high-quality projects on time and within budget.

Responsibilities
  • Support the Project Manager in the planning, coordination, and delivery of rail projects.
  • Assist with the preparation and maintenance of project programmes, budgets, and delivery plans.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential
  • Degree, HNC/HND, or equivalent qualification in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, or a related discipline.
  • Previous experience within construction, civil engineering, or rail infrastructure.
  • Strong organisational and time‑management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Good understanding of Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, Word and Project.
  • Ability to prioritise workload and manage multiple tasks.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Full UK driving licence.
Desirable
  • Experience working within the UK rail industry.
  • Knowledge of Network Rail standards and project delivery processes.
  • Understanding of NEC contracts.
  • PRINCE2, APM, or similar project management qualification.
  • CSCS card.
  • PTS (Personal Track Safety) certification or willingness to obtain.
