Location: Peterborough / Hydrid. You will be managing projects either in Norfolk or Colchester and we would expect some level of travel to these sites to work with stakeholders
Anglian Water offers a flexible approach, this role provides you with hybrid working. Your base location will either be in our Peterborough office with the expectation of being in the office 2-3 days a week.

As part of Anglian Water’s draft Water Resources Management Plan 2024, significant challenges were identified for the East of England. It is estimated that by 2050 we will have 38% less water to supply our customers. To address this long term demand deficit, we are developing two desalination plants in Lincolnshire and Norfolk, and an Advanced Water Recycling (AWR) plant at Colchester. We are looking for Project Managers to drive these high-profile innovative projects: (1) Norfolk desalination, and (2) Colchester AWR.
Part of the Strategic Assessment Management team, you’ll be a key member of the new Programme Development team. This team has recently been set up to manage the early-stage development of future major infrastructure projects, such as desalination and AWR.
Working for the Senior Programme Manager, the Project Manager will drive early development of the project to ensure the required deliverables are delivered to time, on budget, and of a high quality up until handover to the delivery route. These innovative projects require management of consultants, collaboration with stakeholders and operations; driving the external governance process with regulators; working with academia to investigate new technologies and ensure best practice; and working with the PMO and Commercial team to ensure delivery to time and budget, with risks and opportunities managed, and comprehensive reports produced to provide visibility of progress.
What will you be doing?
As Project Manager, you’ll be responsible for planning, managing, and delivering projects on time and within budget. Working with the PMO, you’ll develop project plans, schedules, and budgets, while tracking progress and managing risks and opportunities. Collaborating with technical and environmental leads, you’ll ensure all work packages are delivered to a high standard. You’ll also lead on stakeholder engagement, maintain accurate records, and provide regular updates and reports to internal and external stakeholders. This role requires confident communication, strong organisational skills, and a proactive approach to risk and change management.
What does it take to be a Project Manager?
Proven history in effective project management, ideally within infrastructure
Experience of managing budgets, programmes and risk
Knowledge of Water Resources Planning & of the UK Water Industry would be beneficial but not essential
The ideal candidate would be highly organised, a self-starter, resilient, keen to develop and be able to challenge and be challenged.
There is an expectation that the role will involve travel to meetings/sites and therefore a driving licence and access to a vehicle is essential
