We are reshaping the energy future by reconciling economic performance with a positive impact on people and the planet. We are looking for individuals committed to helping turn our vision into reality.

Purpose of the Job:

As a Project Manager, you will take ownership and leadership of projects, ensuring their successful delivery against defined criteria of time, cost, quality, and benefits realisation. You will be responsible for managing both technical and non-technical projects from the planning phase through to closure, engaging effectively with all stakeholders to drive progress and minimise risks.

Key Accountabilities:
  • Define, document, and execute one or more projects, leading all phases of the project lifecycle.
  • Estimate and report costs, timescales, and resource requirements for successful project delivery.
  • Prepare and maintain realistic project and quality plans, tracking all activities against the plan.
  • Establish effective project governance, preparing and chairing SteerCo meetings, and providing weekly status reports to senior management.
  • Monitor costs, timescales, and resources, taking action where deviations occur.
  • Escalate project issues related to scope, quality, timing, budget, and dependencies, providing reports to management and stakeholders.
  • Manage change control procedures, gaining agreement for project revisions from sponsors.
  • Drive and direct the justification for change, contributing to benefits and cost analysis.
  • Negotiate and manage project resources, including non-IT resources and sub-contracted third parties.
  • Ensure smooth transition of projects into operational states, including handover to support functions.
  • Proactively seek improvements in processes, methods, and tools, sharing and implementing these within the team.
  • Deliver assigned project tasks to time and quality criteria, supporting team members in achieving their tasks.
  • Maintain business and technical project risk and issue logs, showing evidence of containment and contingency actions.
  • Lead and create strategy and approach information for major tasks such as migration, testing, and training.
  • Contribute to the development of project process improvements within the team and wider department.
  • Create engagement plans and communicate project progress and issues to stakeholders.

Knowledge and Skills:
  • Strong understanding of project methodologies such as Agile, Scrum, Waterfall, and Lean.
  • Ability to manage project budgets and control costs.
  • Effective risk management and quality assurance skills.
  • Leadership capabilities with the ability to motivate project teams.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to create communication and engagement plans.
  • Proficiency in project management software (e.g., Microsoft Project, Jira).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Analytical and critical thinking skills with the ability to make informed decisions.

Experience:
  • Proven track record in Project Management.
  • Experience working on IT and transformation projects.
  • Substantial experience in business, transformation, and IT project and programme management.
  • Experience influencing senior stakeholders and reporting to steering groups.
  • Energy industry experience and familiarity with IT strategy and IT/Enterprise Architecture are beneficial.

Qualifications:
  • Educated to A-level standard, ideally to degree level or equivalent.
  • Recognised project management methodology, preferably PRINCE2 and/or MSP Practitioner.
  • Chartered membership of a recognised professional body (e.g., APM, BCS, IET) preferred.
  • IT service management qualification (e.g., ITIL foundation) beneficial.
