We are currently recruiting for an experienced Project Manager to join a well-established and highly respected main contractor based in Inverness.

Our client has a strong reputation for delivering high-quality construction projects across Scotland, with an established presence in the Highlands and a diverse portfolio of projects across the commercial, industrial, education, healthcare and public sectors.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced and motivated Project Manager to join a successful construction business that prides itself on quality, teamwork and building long-term relationships with clients.

The successful candidate will take responsibility for managing construction projects from initial planning through to completion, ensuring they are delivered safely, on programme, within budget and to the highest standards.

Working closely with site teams, subcontractors, commercial departments and senior management, you will play a key role in the successful delivery of projects throughout Inverness and the surrounding areas.

The Role

As Project Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of construction project delivery, ensuring projects are effectively planned, coordinated and managed from commencement through to handover.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Managing construction projects from pre-construction and planning stages through to successful completion and handover.

  • Ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget and to the required quality standards.

  • Developing and managing construction programmes, monitoring progress and identifying potential delays.

  • Coordinating site managers, site teams, subcontractors, suppliers and consultants to ensure the smooth delivery of projects.

  • Working closely with the commercial team to monitor project costs, budgets, forecasts and financial performance.

  • Managing project resources, including labour, plant, materials and subcontractors.

  • Maintaining strong working relationships with clients, consultants, architects and other key stakeholders.

  • Ensuring compliance with health and safety legislation, company procedures and environmental requirements.

  • Attending and leading project progress meetings, providing regular updates to senior management and clients.

  • Identifying and managing project risks, implementing effective solutions to minimise disruption.

  • Reviewing drawings, specifications and contract documentation to ensure works are completed in accordance with project requirements.

  • Managing variations, programme changes and contractual matters in conjunction with the commercial team.

  • Supporting and mentoring site management teams to maintain high standards of performance and productivity.

  • Overseeing quality control, inspections, snagging and final project handover.

  • Promoting a positive working environment with a strong focus on safety, communication and teamwork.

About You

We are looking for a confident, organised and commercially aware Project Manager with a proven track record of successfully delivering construction projects.

You will be a natural leader who can manage multiple priorities, build strong working relationships and take ownership of projects from start to finish.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Proven experience working as a Project Manager within the construction industry, ideally for a main contractor.

  • A strong background in managing commercial, industrial, education, healthcare or other large-scale building projects.

  • Experience delivering construction projects from inception through to completion.

  • Excellent knowledge of construction methods, project programming and site management.

  • Strong commercial awareness with an understanding of budgets, cost control and contractual requirements.

  • Experience managing subcontractors, site management teams and project resources.

  • A sound understanding of construction health and safety legislation and best practices.

  • Excellent communication, organisational and problem-solving skills.

  • The ability to build and maintain positive relationships with clients, consultants and colleagues.

  • A proactive, hands-on approach with the confidence to make decisions and resolve challenges.

  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and support project teams.

  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office and construction programming software.

  • A full UK driving licence.

Desirable qualifications:

  • Degree or HNC/HND in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Building or a related discipline.

  • SMSTS certification.

  • CSCS card.

  • First Aid at Work.

  • Relevant professional membership, such as CIOB, would be advantageous.

Candidates should ideally be based in Inverness or the surrounding Highlands area, or be prepared to relocate.

What's on Offer?
  • The opportunity to join a well-established and respected construction contractor.

  • A permanent position with a strong pipeline of projects across the Highlands.

  • Competitive salary and benefits package, dependent on experience.
