VolkerLaser, part of VolkerWessels UK, is seeking a Project Manager/Senior Site Agent to lead a major civil/infrastructure project from Birmingham with potential future opportunities across the UK and Europe. The role involves 12-hour rotating shifts and site-based delivery across highway, rail, and infrastructure works.

You will drive safety, quality and programme delivery, manage stakeholders and lead site teams and supply chains to achieve right‑first‑time delivery on challenging projects.

About us

VolkerLaser repairs, strengthens and waterproofs concrete and steel structures, offering a tailored package of specialist works to clients across the UK. Our structural solutions include bridge deck waterproofing, expansion joints, concrete slipforming, concrete repair and cathodic protection works, steel repair and strengthening work, carbon fibre and temporary works, jacking and bearing replacement. We also provide specialist lightweight decking and access solutions, as well as being specialists in long bridge and cable refurbishment.

About the role

This is a fantastic opportunity for a Project Manager or an ambitious Senior Site Agent looking to take the next step in their career with PJD, part of the VolkerLaser.

You’ll initially join a specialist HS2 slipforming tunnel project in Birmingham for approximately six months before progressing onto major infrastructure projects across the UK, with potential opportunities in Europe.

We’re looking for a motivated leader with experience delivering civil engineering or infrastructure projects, strong stakeholder management skills, and a commitment to safety, quality and programme delivery.

The role is site-based and operates on a rotating shift pattern of 12-hour days, working Monday to Saturday one week and Monday to Friday the next.

Key Responsibilities

• Overall accountability for safe, compliant and successful project delivery
• Set project strategy, plans, programmes and delivery standards
• Own programme, cost, quality and HSE performance
• Set delivery strategy and manage risks, change and recovery
• Lead site teams and supply chain to right‑first‑time delivery
• Control budgets, resources and commercial outcomes
• Manage client, stakeholder and internal reporting
• Ensure technical, design and temporary works compliance
• Drive company values, team development and positive culture

About you

• Technical qualification (example Degree in civil engineering or HND)
• Experience within concrete and steel repair
• Somer exposure on blasting and painting contracts
• Proven technical and project management abilities
• Strong organisational and management skills
• Knowledge of the requirements and implementation of CDM regulations
• Ability to produce Work Package Plans, Task Briefing Sheets, and implement safe systems of work
• Detailed knowledge of Safety, Quality and Environmental issues relevant to the project environment
• Flexibility to travel and work nationwide is essential.
