Project Engineering Lead – Export Support

The opportunity:

At Leonardo, we have a fantastic new opportunity for Project Engineering Lead (PEL) to join our team within the Customer Support and Service Solutions (CS3) line of business. CS3 operates across the UK, providing innovative and invaluable support solutions to our customers. We help to ensure the availability of front-line capability wherever and whenever required.

This role will be part of the Typhoon Support team: delivering and maintaining in-service capabilities for the Typhoon Aircraft Radar Systems and Praetorian Defensive Aids Sub-System across the globe. As a Project Engineering Lead, you will have the opportunity to work across the full range of in-service technical elements including hardware, software, test solutions and documentation; applying problem solving, collaboration and continuous improvement skills to deliver optimal solutions.

In this role you will work closely with the internal Leonardo teams and with external stakeholders, including suppliers, partners and customers, with the ability to influence front-line availability of critical equipment

What you’ll do as a Project Engineering Lead:

  • Manage, drive and prioritise Engineering work packages in accordance with budget, schedule adherence and contractual obligations.
  • Maintain a positive working relationship across all internal and external stakeholders.
  • Produce engineering plans, estimates, Statements of Work and supporting documentation.
  • Prepare and deliver monthly reporting and metrics to engineering/project management.
  • Support engineering management on Planning, Risk, Scheduling, Forward load, Work Package management and Design Reviews.
  • Work closely with Engineering Management and Chief Engineers to make and enact decisions quickly.
  • Mentor and manage the performance and development of the engineering team members
  • Maintain project compliance with the company policies and procedures, including life cycle management.
  • Support Programme Design Reviews; to ensure project drivers are fully understood, considered, and the impacts of any associated risks are reduced.

We would like to hear from you if you have a combination of the following:

  • Experience of working in a service-oriented team that supports the needs of customers
  • Ability to balance competing needs and ascertain when to prioritise and escalate issues in order to meet critical delivery timescales
  • Enthusiastic and self-motivated with a strong ability to foster and develop effective working relationships with both external and internal stakeholders at varying levels of seniority, while working in challenging environments with often fluid priorities.
  • An aptitude for problem solving and driving difficult issues to conclusion.
  • Experience and understanding of the engineering lifecycle, and how the support phase of the lifecycle is managed
  • Experience of multifunctional team management with skills and strength to supervise, coach, train and motivate teams.
  • Proven communication & negotiation skills at all internal and external levels

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with experience of delivery to a variety of audiences.
