Job description

Project Engineering Manager

Lead Complex Engineering Projects. Shape the Energy Transition.

Hydrasun is seeking an experienced Project Engineering Manager to provide technical and operational leadership across a diverse portfolio of engineering projects. This is a key leadership role responsible for ensuring the successful delivery of multidisciplinary engineering solutions that are safe, compliant, innovative and aligned with customer requirements.

Acting as the principal engineering authority on assigned projects, you will lead engineering teams through the full project lifecycle, overseeing design, technical delivery, stakeholder management and project execution. Working closely with the Senior Management Team, you will play a pivotal role in developing a centre of engineering excellence while supporting Hydrasun's continued growth across both traditional energy and emerging energy transition markets, including hydrogen and carbon capture technologies.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a highly skilled organisation at the forefront of engineering innovation and the global energy transition.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead multidisciplinary engineering teams to deliver projects safely, efficiently and in line with scope, budget and schedule requirements.
  • Provide technical and operational leadership across a portfolio of engineering projects from concept through to completion.
  • Act as the primary engineering focal point for customers, partners, suppliers and internal stakeholders.
  • Ensure engineering designs, equipment selections and technical solutions meet performance, safety, reliability and regulatory requirements.
  • Drive delivery of safe, cost-effective and technically robust engineered solutions that meet or exceed customer expectations.
  • Coordinate engineering activities across customers, consortium partners, vendors, consultants, procurement, construction, commissioning and project management teams.
  • Manage technical risks and implement effective mitigation strategies to support successful project outcomes.
  • Support equipment and service procurement activities through technical evaluation and vendor engagement.
  • Resolve complex technical issues, providing guidance and direction to engineering disciplines.
  • Contribute to the development of new products, services and engineering solutions supporting business growth.
  • Promote strong communication, collaboration and knowledge sharing across engineering and wider business functions.
  • Support contract management activities, including variations, change orders and engineering change processes.
  • Capture lessons learned and drive continuous improvement initiatives across future projects.
  • Lead technical meetings, reviews and customer engagement activities throughout project execution.
Technical Leadership

You will be responsible for establishing and maintaining engineering management plans, procedures and project delivery frameworks, ensuring engineering activities are executed to the highest standards.

The role will oversee the development and review of key engineering deliverables, including process flow diagrams (PFDs), piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), plant layouts, electrical single-line diagrams, process control philosophies and associated design documentation.

You will ensure engineering studies, design reviews and safety assessments such as HAZID, HAZOP, constructability reviews, commissioning reviews and operational readiness assessments are effectively planned and executed. Working alongside discipline specialists, you will coordinate engineering design reviews, interdisciplinary checks and technical approvals while monitoring engineering progress and proactively addressing risks to project delivery.

In addition, you will oversee technical responses to customer and supplier enquiries, review vendor proposals, support equipment performance testing, manage engineering change notices and ensure project documentation is maintained through to final as-built status and project closeout.

Leadership & Team Development
  • Provide technical coaching, mentorship and guidance to engineers across multiple disciplines.
  • Develop team capability, succession planning and professional development opportunities.
  • Manage and prioritise engineering resources to ensure effective workload planning.
  • Conduct performance and development reviews.
  • Control engineering costs and support departmental efficiency objectives.
  • Contribute positively to wider business and senior management initiatives.
About You

To succeed in this role, you will bring significant engineering leadership experience within the oil & gas, petrochemical, power generation or renewable energy sectors, together with a proven track record of delivering complex engineering projects and leading high-performing technical teams.

Essential Requirements
  • Degree qualified in an Engineering discipline or equivalent qualification.
  • Previous experience delivering small to medium-scale engineering projects within oil & gas, petrochemical, conventional power or renewable energy environments.
  • Experience managing or supervising degree-qualified engineers and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Strong understanding of relevant engineering codes, standards and industry best practice.
  • Knowledge of fluid transfer, power and control technologies or comparable engineering systems.
  • Demonstrable experience operating within technically demanding, customer-focused engineering environments.
  • Excellent leadership, organisation and communication skills.
  • Ability to influence, motivate and develop teams while maintaining a strong focus on safety, quality and customer satisfaction.
Desirable Requirements
  • Chartered Engineer status.
  • Experience with hydrogen, carbon capture and renewable energy technologies.
  • Knowledge of instrumentation and control systems.
  • Experience with manufacturing, machining and fabrication processes.
  • Understanding of welding procedures, codes and standards.
  • Experience developing engineering procedures, processes and best-practice frameworks.
  • Participation in customer engineering reviews, investigations and technical assurance activities.
  • Knowledge of CDM Regulations and associated duty holder responsibilities.
  • Familiarity with PED and ATEX directives.
