Job summary

Aldwych Consulting is seeking a Project Engineer/Senior Engineer to support delivery on a large UK civil project with significant steelwork and self-delivery civils. You’ll sit just below the Project Manager, coordinating design, planning and site teams to keep the programme moving and issues resolved quickly.

The role requires strong organisational and communication skills, experience in major civils, and a civil engineering or construction management qualification; remote work is not

Qualifications

  • Experience as a Project Engineer or Senior Engineer on major civils or infrastructure projects.
  • Strong organisational and documentation skills.
  • Excellent communication and team coordination abilities.
  • Confident interpreting drawings, specifications and technical details.
  • Self-delivery environment experience with direct labour and specialist teams.
  • Relevant civil engineering or construction management qualification.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate drawings, technical information and specifications for steelwork and civils.
  • Work with site teams to ensure safe, correct and logical sequence of works.
  • Manage RFIs, design queries and interface issues with designers and consultants.
  • Support temporary works processes, ensuring designs, permits and checks are in place.
  • Assist with short-term planning, look-ahead schedules and progress updates.
  • Maintain quality records, inspections and handover documentation.
  • Identify risks early and help develop practical solutions.
  • Maintain clear communication between engineering, planning, commercial and delivery teams.
  • Support the Project Manager with coordination and project control.

Job description

Excellent opening for a seasoned Project Engineer or an ambitious Senior Engineer looking to take the step up! A major UK contractor is looking for a Project Engineer to support delivery on a large, complex project with significant steelwork and self‑delivered civils activities. This role sits just below the Project Manager and is ideal for someone who's organised, technically confident and able to keep design, planning and site teams working in sync.

The Role

You'll help manage the technical and coordination side of the project, making sure steelwork and civils activities are built safely, correctly and in line with the design. You'll work closely with the Project Manager, supporting them with planning, reporting and day‑to‑day problem‑solving. You'll be a key link between designers, subcontractors and site teams, helping keep the programme moving and resolving issues before they slow things down.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate drawings, technical information and specifications for steelwork and civils
  • Work with site teams to make sure works are delivered safely, correctly and in the right sequence
  • Manage RFIs, design queries and interface issues with designers and consultants
  • Support temporary works processes, ensuring designs, permits and checks are in place
  • Assist with short‑term planning, look‑ahead schedules and progress updates
  • Maintain quality records, inspections and handover documentation
  • Spot risks, clashes and constraints early and help develop practical solutions
  • Keep communication clear between engineering, planning, commercial and delivery teams
  • Support the Project Manager with coordination, reporting and general project control
Required Experience
  • Experience as a Project Engineer or Senior Engineer on major civils or infrastructure projects
  • Good understanding of structural steelwork, erection processes and temporary works
  • Comfortable working within a self‑delivery environment with direct labour and specialist teams
  • Strong organisational, documentation and communication skills
  • Confident interpreting drawings, specifications and technical details
  • Relevant qualification in civil engineering or construction management
Desirable
  • Experience in complex or high‑risk environments such as energy, industrial, defence or rail
  • Familiarity with digital tools like Aconex, CEMAR or Power BIExposure to project controls such as change management, risk, cost or earned value
  • Working towards professional membership (ICE, CIOB, IStructE)
