Job Title: Project Engineer – Installation and Commissioning

Location: Various client and construction sites across the UK
Role Overview
As a Project Engineer – Installation and Commissioning, you will play a critical role in the successful execution of multiple fire, life safety, electronic security, and data network system installations under contract with the SGD Group. Working in close coordination with the Project Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing on-site activities from installation through to commissioning, ensuring compliance with design specifications, standards, and client expectations.
This is a hands-on, client-facing role that demands technical expertise, excellent communication, and strong project coordination skills. You will interact daily with clients to interpret their requirements and represent the SGD Group on-site, ensuring that all systems are delivered to the highest quality and performance standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Install and commission a range of systems including:
- Fire Detection and Alarm Systems
- Access Control and Door Entry Systems
- CCTV and Intruder Alarm Systems
- Voice Alarm and Disabled Refuge/Alarm Systems
- Associated security and data network systems
- Conduct site surveys in collaboration with the Project Manager, evaluating fire and security risk factors.
- Supervise and coordinate the work of sub-contractors, reporting daily progress to the Project Manager.
- Test, verify, and commission life safety and security systems in accordance with project requirements and British Standards.
- Assist with documentation, including commissioning reports, QA/QC records, RAMS, and system certification.
- Provide customer demonstrations, witness testing, and end-user training.
- Review project plans, perform quality control, and ensure adherence to project timelines and budgets.
- Participate in client meetings, offering technical input and support as required.
Commissioning Tasks May Include:
- Cause and Effect Matrix Management & Verification
- Configuration Development & Field Testing
- Panel Networking and Head End Graphics Setup
- Third-Party Integration Testing
- IP Device Addressing & Scheduling
- Network Cable Patching and System Demonstrations
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):
- Timely achievement of commissioning milestones and key project dates
- Client satisfaction and feedback
- Compliance with SLAs and contractual KPIs
- Minimisation of complaints and escalations
- Engineering productivity and adherence to budget
Skills and Experience Required:
- Proven experience in the installation and commissioning of fire detection (Gent and Advanced bias preferable, but not essential), access control, CCTV, and intruder alarm systems
- In-depth knowledge of relevant British Standards, BAFE, and NSI Codes of Practice
- Strong fault-finding and problem-solving capabilities
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Clear and professional verbal and written communication skills
- Competency in interpreting technical specifications and drawings
- Strong organisational and time management skills
- Good IT skills and ability to manage vehicle stock
- High attention to detail and commitment to quality
- Customer-focused approach with strong interpersonal skills

Employment Details:
- Job Type:Full-time
- Schedule:Monday to Friday. 8.30am-17.00pm or other should this be required

- Location:Split between SGD Group offices (Cardiff) and client/construction sites across the UK
- Working Conditions: Indoor and outdoor work environments; may include work outside normal business hours
