Job summary

Interaction Technical is recruiting for a Project Engineer - Mechanical Design in Wellingborough. You will produce detailed 3D/2D drawings using SolidWorks and AutoCAD for conveyors and related equipment, ensuring projects meet budgets and specifications.

You will lead projects, provide engineering support across departments, and perform cost analyses to keep outputs cost-effective. A strong background in structural steel design is essential, with a focus on collaboration and hands-on site

Qualifications

• Previous experience as a project engineer within the structural steel industry (essential).
• Proven ability to read and create technical drawings and specifications (essential).
• SolidWorks and AutoCAD knowledge advantageous for detailed drawings.
• Experience around sheet metal and fabrication advantageous.
• Relevant design engineering qualifications advantageous.
• Team player with collaborative working style.

Responsibilities

• Produce detailed 3D and 2D drawings and specifications using SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
• Liaise with sales and projects to keep plans within budget and cost-effective.
• Review and improve existing designs; visit sites to verify installed performance.
• Lead projects, provide engineering support across departments, mentor staff.
• Carry out cost analyses to ensure cost-effective project delivery.
• Produce documentation and follow health & safety procedures.

Interaction Technical have partnered with a market leading manufacturer of waste management equipment on their search for experienced project/design engineers to join their growing team. Our client are well-established within their industry and have reached a stage of exponential growth where they are growing their projects department.

The Role:

• Produce detailed 3D and 2D drawings and specifications using the SolidWorks and AutoCAD packages to produce company products (conveyors, structural steel and ancillary equipment) for brand new projects within the business.
• Liaise with the sales and projects departments to ensure that all projects and plans are within budget and are cost-effective.
• Review and improve existing designs within the business, visiting customer sites where required to see the product you designed once it has been installed to ensure it is working efficiently and effectively.
• To lead projects effectively, providing engineering support to all departments within the projects, mentoring and training other members of staff where required.
• Carry out cost analysis activities within new projects to ensure that all projects carried out are cost-effective.
• Produce documentation where required and follow all company legislation and Health & Safety procedures.

The Requirements:

• Previous experience as a project engineer within the structural steel industry or similar industries (essential)
• Proven ability to read and create technical drawings and specifications (essential)
• Knowledge of the SolidWorks and/or AutoCAD CAD packages to produce detailed engineering drawing and specifications (advantageous)
• Previous experience working in and around sheet metal and fabrication (advantageous)
• Relevant qualifications within design engineering (advantageous)
