Job description

Would you enjoy working as part of a multidisciplinary project delivery scheme team? If so, we have an exciting opportunity to join our small schemes team based in Poole as a Project Engineer.

What you'll do

As a Project Engineer, you will be responsible for both reactive and planned capital maintenance projects across a diverse range of sites, including water recycling, water production, sewerage and water distribution.

The value of projects varies between around £15,000 and £250,000. You will be working across the Wessex Water region, mainly covering the Poole area.

Projects can include planned pumping station upgrades, the design and installation of inlet screen replacements, emergency wastewater treatment side streams, and clean water treatment process upgrades.

Your role will involve:

  • optioneering, contracts, tendering, spend forecasting, project delivery, commissioning, authoring payments and project closeouts
  • working closely with our contractors and supply chain
  • ensuring that all health and safety and other statutory regulations that may affect the construction process are adhered to
  • ensuring the delivery process accords with our policies
  • ensuring company and departmental targets are met
  • assisting in the establishment of budgets and approvals.
What you'll need

Ideally, you will be from a engineering/construction and/or water industry background with experience in project management and working closely with external contractors.

It is essential that you have a safety-first approach and good negotiation and influencing skills.

In addition, you will need to:

  • have a positive and "can-do" attitude
  • be well-organised, customer-focused and a great team player
  • hold a formal qualification in project management
  • hold a technical level 4 (HNC) qualification in an engineering discipline
  • be a professionally registered engineer (EngTech/IEng) or working towards this - support can be given on professional registration
  • have a working knowledge of CDM 2015
  • have a valid driving licence (a company car will be provided if you are not able to use your own vehicle).

Pending the number of applications, the criteria for the position may be enhanced to facilitate shortlisting. We may interview as and when suitable candidates apply and therefore may close the application end date early.

What you'll receive
  • A combined pension contribution of up to 20%.
  • Career progression and professional development opportunities.
  • 25 days' holiday rising to 28 with length of service.
  • The opportunity to sell up to five days of holiday every year.
  • The opportunity to buy up to ten days of holiday each year (subject to conditions).
  • A healthcare package that allows you to claim back healthcare costs.
  • Life assurance of up to eight times your salary.
  • The opportunity to lease a new electric car through salary sacrifice (subject to conditions).
  • Cashback and discounts from more than 3,000 retailers.
  • One paid volunteering day each year.
  • Enhanced family leave and pay arrangements.
  • Access to an interactive health and wellbeing platform.
  • Support from trained mental health first aiders.
  • A £1,000 referral fee if you recommend someone who is successfully recruited by us.
